Boundless Daily: Trusting the Great Physician

Life has a way of wearing us down. Whether it’s a physical ailment that won’t quit, an emotional weight that feels like a lead vest, or a spiritual dryness that makes every step feel heavy, we all encounter "sickness" in one form or another. When our bodies or hearts are hurting, our first instinct is often to scramble for a quick fix. We check symptoms online, we try to self-medicate with distractions, or we simply try to "power through" on our own strength.

But there is a better way to navigate the seasons of pain and uncertainty. Today, we’re looking at what it means to trust the Great Physician. This isn't just a poetic title for Jesus; it’s a fundamental reality of who He is and what He does for us. In the Assemblies of God tradition, we recognize Divine Healing as one of our core truths (AG Truth #12). It’s the belief that healing isn't just a lucky break, it’s a provision of the Gospel.

We help people meet Jesus and grow in faith online. Whether you are reading this on a break during a late-night shift, from a hospital waiting room, or in the quiet of your home, know that the Great Physician is making a house call to your heart right now.

More Than a Physical Cure

When we think of a doctor, we usually think of white coats and prescriptions. We think of someone who fixes what is broken in our anatomy. Jesus certainly does that, the Gospels are full of stories of Him opening blind eyes and making the lame walk, but His "practice" goes much deeper.

Jesus famously said, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners." In this one statement, He redefined what it means to be "sick." He was pointing out that while physical illness is real and painful, there is a deeper malady affecting every human being: the sickness of sin.

Trusting the Great Physician starts with an honest diagnosis. We have to admit that we can’t fix ourselves. We can’t "good-work" our way out of a spiritual infection. Just as you wouldn't try to perform surgery on yourself, you shouldn't try to handle the weight of your own soul without Him.

The Provision of Healing

One of the most powerful aspects of our faith is the understanding that healing is "provided for in the atonement." That’s a bit of "churchy" language, but it simply means that when Jesus went to the cross, He didn't just pay for our "ticket to heaven." He paid for our wholeness.

Isaiah 53:4-5 tells us that "He took up our pain and bore our suffering... and by His wounds we are healed." This is a promise that covers the whole person, body, soul, and spirit. It means that when we pray for healing, we aren't asking God to do something that is outside of His character. We are asking Him to manifest what He has already promised.

For those of you who are caregivers, hospice workers, or living with chronic conditions, this truth is a lifeline. It means that even when the physical body is failing, there is a source of divine strength and restoration available. Trusting the Great Physician doesn't always mean an instant, miraculous disappearance of every symptom (though we believe He can and does do that!). Sometimes, it means the supernatural peace and strength to endure, knowing that our ultimate healing is secure in Him.

A Global Ministry of Restoration

At Boundless Online Church, we see people from all walks of life, people in countries where they can’t openly go to a physical church, people who are homebound due to disability, and people who are just starting to ask questions about who Jesus is.

If you’re in a place where you feel isolated, remember that the Great Physician isn't limited by geography or walls. He is just as present in a digital space as He is in a cathedral. Divine healing is a global gift. It is for the person in Memphis and the person in a persecuted region halfway across the world.

How Do We Trust Him Practically?

So, how do we actually "trust" the Great Physician when we’re in pain or feeling lost? It starts with a conversation.

  1. Acknowledge the Need: Don't try to hide your pain or your struggles from God. He already knows, but He wants you to invite Him into that space. Tell Him where it hurts, whether it’s your back, your heart, or your mind.

  2. Repentance as Medicine: Just as a doctor cleans a wound before bandaging it, Jesus often deals with our hearts first. Trusting Him means being willing to let go of the things that are poisoning our spirits, bitterness, pride, or hidden sin.

  3. Stand on the Word: When you feel weak, remind yourself of His promises. Read James 5:14-16. Remind your soul that He is the Lord who heals you.

  4. Ask for Prayer: We weren't meant to carry our burdens alone. The Bible encourages us to pray for one another so that we may be healed. There is power in the community of believers standing together in faith.

You Are Not Alone

If you’re feeling the weight of the world today, or if you’re facing a health challenge that feels insurmountable, please know that we are here for you. We believe in a God who hears, who cares, and who heals.

Whether your "sickness" is physical, emotional, or spiritual, the Great Physician is ready to meet you right where you are. You don't have to be "well" to come to Him. In fact, your need is your greatest invitation to His grace.

Do you have questions about divine healing? Are you wondering how to start this journey of faith? We invite you to reach out. There are no "silly" questions here. We are a community of people who are all learning to trust the Great Physician one day at a time.
