Welcome home, friend.
If you've ever found yourself lying awake at night, wrestling with pain, whether physical, emotional, or spiritual, you've probably whispered the question into the darkness: Does God still heal today?
Maybe you've scrolled through social media, seeing testimonies of miraculous healings and wondered if that could ever be your story. Perhaps you've prayed and prayed, and the healing hasn't come the way you expected. Or maybe you're just curious about what the Bible actually says about divine healing and whether it's still relevant in our modern, technology-driven world.
Here's the beautiful truth we want to share with you today: Yes, God absolutely still heals. And understanding this core belief can transform not just your theology, but your everyday faith walk.
What Does the Bible Say About Divine Healing?
Before we dive into the "does He still heal today" conversation, let's ground ourselves in Scripture. Because here at Boundless Online Church and FA Memphis, we believe the Bible is our foundation for everything we believe and practice.

Divine healing isn't some fringe concept or wishful thinking, it's woven throughout the entire story of Scripture. In the Old Testament, we see God revealing Himself as Jehovah Rapha, "The Lord Who Heals" (Exodus 15:26). That's not just a nice title; it's part of His very nature and character.
Then there's Isaiah 53:4-5, a powerful prophecy about Jesus that says, "Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering... and by his wounds we are healed." This passage connects healing directly to Christ's redemptive work on the cross.
In the New Testament, Jesus spent a significant portion of His ministry healing people. The blind received sight. The lame walked. The sick were made whole. And here's what's amazing, He didn't just heal to prove He was the Messiah (though it certainly did that). He healed because compassion moved Him. He saw suffering and responded with love.
James 5:14-16 gives us practical instruction: "Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well."
This isn't ancient history, friend. This is our inheritance as believers.
The Assemblies of God Belief on Divine Healing
As part of the Assemblies of God family, we hold divine healing as one of our core beliefs, one of the "Four Cardinal Doctrines" that shape who we are. We believe that healing is provided for in the atonement and is available to all believers today.

Now, let's be clear about what this means and what it doesn't mean.
We believe God can and does heal supernaturally today. We've seen it. We've experienced it. We've heard countless testimonies of people whose doctors couldn't explain their recoveries, miraculous answers to prayer that defy medical logic.
But we also recognize that healing doesn't always look the way we expect. Sometimes it's instantaneous and dramatic. Research has documented cases where healing occurred immediately following prayer. Other times, healing begins after prayer and continues gradually over days or weeks. And sometimes, God's healing comes through the skilled hands of medical professionals, because guess what? God created medicine and doctors too!
The key is this: healing is rooted in God's character and available through faith and prayer. It's not dependent on a specific formula or a particular faith healer. It's about relationship with a loving Father who cares deeply about every aspect of your life, including your physical body.
How Does God Heal Today?
So practically speaking, how does divine healing work in our modern world? Great question. Let's walk through this together.
Through Prayer
Prayer remains the primary avenue for experiencing God's healing power. Whether it's your own prayers, the prayers of your small group, or the prayers of church elders, there's something powerful that happens when we bring our needs before God in faith.

Through Community
We weren't designed to walk through trials alone. When you're part of a faith community, whether in-person at FA Memphis or online through Boundless Online Church, you have people who will stand with you, pray for you, and believe with you for breakthrough.
Through Medical Care
Here's something beautiful: faith and medicine aren't enemies. God can use chemotherapy, surgery, therapy, and medication as tools for healing. Seeking medical help isn't a lack of faith, it's wisdom. We thank God for doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals!
Through Spiritual Gifts
The Holy Spirit still distributes gifts to believers today, including gifts of healing (1 Corinthians 12:9). These gifts operate to glorify Jesus and build up the church, not to elevate any individual person.
What About When Healing Doesn't Come?
Okay, friend, let's talk about the elephant in the room. Because if we're being honest, sometimes we pray and healing doesn't come, at least not in the way or timing we hoped for.
This is where faith gets real and sometimes really hard.
First, know this: unanswered prayer doesn't mean God doesn't love you. It doesn't mean you lack faith. It doesn't mean you did something wrong. We live in a broken world, and sometimes the "why" questions don't get answered this side of heaven.

What we can hold onto is this: God is still good. He's still present. He's still working, even when we can't see it or understand it. Sometimes healing comes in forms we didn't expect. Emotional healing. Spiritual breakthrough. Peace that surpasses understanding. Strength to endure.
And ultimately, we have the promise of complete, total, permanent healing when we see Jesus face to face. No more pain. No more tears. No more sickness. That's the hope we cling to.
