Evergreen Faith : Divine Healing Still Happens

A Message from FA Memphis

Divine healing is an integral part of the Gospel. It is the 12th Fundamental Truth of the Assemblies of God, affirming that deliverance from sickness is provided for in the atonement and is the privilege of all believers. This post explores how God’s power to heal remains active today, offering hope and practical guidance for those seeking physical, emotional, or spiritual restoration through faith in Jesus Christ.

Biblical Foundations of Healing

When we talk about divine healing, we aren't just talking about a "nice idea" or a historical event that stopped when the last Apostle passed away. We are talking about a living promise. The Bible is consistent from cover to cover: God cares about the wholeness of His people.

Isaiah 53:4-5 (NIV): "Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed."

Matthew 8:16-17 (NIV): "When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: 'He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases.'"

James 5:14-15 (NIV): "Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven."

Pastoral Insight: Healing in the Atonement

At Boundless Online Church, we believe that Jesus didn't just come to save our souls for eternity; He came to bring "Shalom": a Hebrew word meaning wholeness, peace, and nothing missing or broken.

The 12th Fundamental Truth of the Assemblies of God states that divine healing is provided for in the atonement. What does that mean in plain English? It means that when Jesus went to the cross, His sacrifice covered the entirety of the human fall. Sin brought death, and death brought decay and disease. By defeating sin, Jesus also provided the "medicine" for the consequences of sin, including physical sickness.

Healing isn't an "extra" or a "bonus" feature of the Christian life. It is baked into the very core of what Jesus did for us. Whether you are a late-shift worker dealing with chronic fatigue, a caregiver exhausted by the needs of a loved one, or someone facing a scary medical diagnosis, this truth is for you. Jesus is the Great Physician, and His office never closes.

Why Does It Matter Today?

We live in a world that is obsessed with health but often lacks hope. We have incredible medical technology: which we believe is a gift from God: but there are moments when medicine reaches its limit. That is where divine healing comes in.

Divine healing is a sign of the Kingdom of God breaking into our present reality. It reminds us that God is not a distant clockmaker who wound up the world and walked away. He is an active, loving Father who is moved by our pain.

If you’ve ever wondered what does Pentecostal mean, a big part of that identity is the belief in the present-day power of the Holy Spirit. We believe the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead lives in us and can bring life to our mortal bodies.

Practical Encouragement: How to Seek Healing

If you or someone you love is hurting, you might be wondering how to "get" this healing. It’s important to remember that healing isn't a formula or a vending machine. It’s a relationship.

1. Ask with Confidence Don't be afraid to be specific with God. He already knows what’s hurting, but He invites you to bring your requests to Him. Whether it’s a migraine or a chronic illness, bring it to the feet of Jesus.

2. Involve the Community The scripture in James 5 tells us to call for the elders. In a digital world, this means reaching out to your church family. You don't have to carry the burden of sickness alone. This is why we have our prayer line and our online community. There is power when two or more agree in prayer.

3. Combine Faith with Wisdom Seeking divine healing does not mean you should ignore medical advice. We thank God for doctors, nurses, and researchers. Often, God works through the hands of medical professionals. We pray for healing and we follow wisdom, trusting God with the outcome.

4. Address the Whole Person Sometimes, our physical bodies are reacting to internal stress, unforgiveness, or spiritual weight. As you pray for physical healing, ask the Holy Spirit to search your heart as well. Is there a need for spiritual restoration? God wants you whole: inside and out.

Dealing with the "Not Yet"

One of the hardest questions people ask is: "What if I pray and I’m not healed?"

This is a space where we must hold onto "calm power" and trust. We believe healing is the privilege of all believers, yet we also live in the "already but not yet" of God's Kingdom. We see glimpses of total restoration now, but the full completion happens when we see Jesus face to face.

If you are in a season of waiting, know that God is not ignoring you. He is with you in the fire. We have resources like Waiting with Purpose that can help you navigate these difficult seasons without losing your faith. Your value is not determined by your health, and God's love for you is not measured by the speed of your recovery.

A Place for Everyone

Whether you are in a hospital bed, a quiet living room, or working a night shift, the power of God is not limited by your location. Boundless Online Church was built for this very reason: to reach the ends of the earth from a phone. We are a community for the seekers, the tired, and those who need a touch from the Master.

Healing is often a journey. Sometimes it is an instantaneous miracle that leaves doctors scratching their heads. Other times, it is a gradual process of recovery and strengthening. In both cases, God gets the glory.

A Prayer for Healing

Lord Jesus, we thank You that You are the Great Physician. We thank You that by Your wounds, we are healed. Right now, I pray for the person reading this who is in pain. Whether the pain is physical, emotional, or spiritual, I ask for Your healing touch to rest upon them. Give them peace that passes understanding and the strength to keep trust in You. We declare that You are able, and we rest in Your perfect love. Amen.
