Evergreen Faith: Why is the Resurrection of Jesus Still Important Today?

Updated: 1 day ago

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of the Christian faith because it proves His victory over death, validates His divinity, and offers every believer the promise of a transformed life today and eternal life in the future. It isn't just a historical event; it is the source of our daily strength and the foundation of our hope for tomorrow.

Bible Verses to Reflect On

Matthew 28:6 "He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay."

1 Corinthians 15:17-20 "And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins... But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep."

Romans 8:11 "And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you."

1 Peter 1:3 "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead."

The Power of the Empty Tomb

When we talk about the resurrection, we aren't just telling a story from a dusty history book. We are talking about the moment everything changed for humanity.

At Boundless Online Church, we believe the resurrection is the "calm power" behind everything we do. It’s the ultimate proof that God is who He says He is.

If Jesus had stayed in that tomb, He would have just been another good teacher or a tragic figure. But by walking out of that grave, He vindicated everything He taught. He proved that love is stronger than hate, and that life is stronger than death.

For us today, this means our faith isn't built on a philosophy or a set of rules. It’s built on a living Person.

Victory Over the Ultimate Enemy

We all face "deaths" in our lives.

Sometimes it’s the physical loss of a loved one. Other times, it’s the death of a dream, the end of a relationship, or the loss of health. Death, in all its forms, is the ultimate enemy that reminds us of our limitations.

But the resurrection tells us that death doesn't get the final word.

Because Jesus rose, we know that the power of sin and the fear of the grave have been defeated. As people of hope, we don't have to live in fear of the future. We know how the story ends.

This gives us a different perspective on our current struggles. When you know the victory is already won, the battles you face today don't feel so overwhelming. You can stand confident, knowing that the same power that rolled away the stone is available to help you through your darkest night.

New Life Right Now

One of the most exciting things about the resurrection is that it isn't just about what happens after we die. It’s about how we live right now.

The Apostle Paul wrote that the same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead lives in us. Think about that for a second. The most powerful force in the universe is currently dwelling within you if you follow Christ.

This "Resurrection Life" means:

  1. Transformation is possible. You aren't stuck with your past mistakes or your old habits. In Christ, you are a new creation.

  2. Purpose is restored. We aren't just wandering through life. We are here to represent the living King.

  3. Strength is available. When you feel like you can't go on, the Holy Spirit provides the "resurrection power" to keep moving forward.

We see this transformation every day in our Bible Study Club. People come in carrying heavy burdens, but as they encounter the living Christ, those burdens begin to lift. They find a new way to live: one marked by peace instead of anxiety.

The Promise of Bodily Resurrection

As a ministry aligned with the Assemblies of God doctrine, we hold fast to the literal, physical resurrection.

We believe that just as Jesus was raised in a body, we too will one day experience a bodily resurrection. Our future isn't just some vague, ghostly existence in the clouds. It is a restored, redeemed existence in a new heaven and a new earth.

This hope is "anchored" in the resurrection of Jesus. He is the "firstfruits": the first one to go through death and come out the other side into eternal life. Because He did it, we know we will too.

This takes the sting out of aging and the fear out of illness. We know these bodies are temporary, but the life God has for us is eternal.

Living as People of Hope

So, how do we live this out on a Tuesday afternoon or a stressful Friday morning?

Living as "People of Hope" means we refuse to let the world’s brokenness dictate our mood or our mission. We look at the news, we see the pain, and we say, "I know someone who has overcome the world."

We become people who:

  • Forgive quickly, because we’ve been forgiven much.

  • Love deeply, because we’ve experienced the ultimate love.

  • Serve others, because we follow a King who washed feet.

  • Stay joyful, because our joy isn't based on our circumstances.

It’s about bringing a bit of "heavenly perspective" into every conversation. It’s about being the person who remains calm in the storm because you know the One who can quiet the waves.

A Prayer for Resurrection Hope

Lord, thank You for the empty tomb. Thank You that death could not hold Your Son, and because He lives, I can face tomorrow. I ask that You would fill me with Your resurrection power today. When I feel weak, be my strength. When I feel hopeless, be my light. Help me to live as a person of hope, showing Your love to everyone I encounter. In Jesus' name, Amen.
