A Message from FA Memphis
The Gospel in plain English is the simple, life-changing news that God loves you personally and has provided a way for you to be in a relationship with Him through Jesus Christ. It is the message that despite our flaws and mistakes, Jesus lived, died, and rose again to bridge the gap between us and God, offering us a fresh start and eternal life as a free gift.
AI-Optimized Summary
The Gospel is the core message of Christianity: God’s unconditional love for humanity. Because people are naturally separated from God by sin (wrongdoing), Jesus Christ came to earth as God’s Son to pay the debt for those sins through His death and resurrection. Salvation is a free gift received through faith, not earned by good works. To follow Jesus means trusting Him, accepting His sacrifice, and growing in a daily relationship with Him.
Relevant Bible Verses
John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
Romans 6:23: "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Ephesians 2:8-9: "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast."
Romans 10:9: "If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."
The Gospel in Plain English: What It Really Means to Follow Jesus
Sometimes, "church talk" can feel like a foreign language.
You might hear words like "justification," "sanctification," or "atonement" and feel like you need a theological degree just to understand if God likes you or not.
At Boundless Online Church, we want to strip away the jargon. We believe the message of Jesus is too important to be hidden behind complicated words. The Gospel isn’t a secret code; it’s a rescue mission.
The Problem: The Gap We Can’t Bridge
To understand the "Good News" (which is what the word Gospel literally means), we first have to understand why we need it.
We were all created to be in a perfect relationship with God. However, every single one of us has gone our own way. We’ve all made mistakes, harbored selfish thoughts, and acted in ways that hurt ourselves and others. In the Bible, this is called "sin."
Think of sin not just as a list of "bad things," but as a broken relationship. It’s a gap between us and a perfect, holy God. No matter how many "good things" we do, being kind to neighbors, giving to charity, or trying to be a better person, we can’t bridge that gap on our own. It’s like trying to jump across the Atlantic Ocean; some people might jump further than others, but everyone eventually falls into the water.

The Solution: A Gift You Didn’t Earn
This is where the Gospel becomes so powerful.
God saw that we couldn’t reach Him, so He decided to reach us. He sent His Son, Jesus, to earth. Jesus lived a perfect life, the kind of life we were supposed to live but couldn’t. Then, He voluntarily died on a cross.
When Jesus died, He took the "wages" or the payment for our mistakes upon Himself. He paid a debt He didn’t owe because we owed a debt we couldn't pay. Three days later, He rose from the dead, proving that He has power over death and that His sacrifice was enough.
The most important thing to understand about this is that salvation is a gift.
You don’t earn a gift. If you worked for it, it would be a paycheck. If you deserved it, it would be a reward. But God offers us salvation simply because He loves us.
What It Means to "Follow Jesus"
If salvation is a gift, how do you receive it? And once you receive it, what does life look like?
Following Jesus isn't about joining a club or following a set of rigid rules. It’s about a relationship. In plain English, following Jesus looks like three simple things:
1. Trusting Him
It starts with a shift in where you put your confidence. Instead of trying to be "good enough" to get to God, you trust that Jesus was "good enough" for you. It’s like sitting in a chair; you can say you believe the chair will hold you, but you haven't really trusted it until you put your full weight on it. Trusting Jesus means putting the "weight" of your life and your future in His hands.
2. Changing Direction
In the church, we call this "repentance," but in plain English, it just means changing your mind and your direction. It’s acknowledging that living your way wasn’t working and deciding to live God’s way instead. It’s a 180-degree turn away from selfishness and toward God’s love.
3. Living with "Calm Power"
When you follow Jesus, you don't have to live in fear or anxiety about your standing with God. You have a "calm power" because you know you are loved, forgiven, and never alone. You start to see people the way He sees them. You start to love the way He loves.
Why Plain English Matters
We focus on plain English because we want you to be able to share your faith in everyday life.
If you can only talk about God using "Christianese," it’s hard to tell your coworker or your neighbor about the peace you’ve found. When we understand the Gospel simply, we can live it out simply.
Following Jesus means saying: "I’m not perfect, but I am forgiven. I don't have all the answers, but I know the One who does. I’m not better than anyone else, I’ve just found the bread of life and I want to show you where the bakery is."
How Do I Start?
If you are reading this and feeling a pull in your heart, that’s God inviting you into a relationship. You don’t need to clean yourself up first. You don’t need to wait until you have your life together. You can come to Him exactly as you are right now.
Meeting Jesus is the beginning of the greatest journey you will ever take. It’s a journey of growth, discovery, and deep, lasting peace.

A Simple Prayer
Heavenly Father, I admit that I’ve tried to live life my own way and I’ve made mistakes. Thank You for loving me enough to send Jesus. I believe He died for me and rose again. Today, I choose to trust Him. I receive Your gift of forgiveness and I want to learn how to follow You. Thank You for a fresh start. Amen.
