A Message from FA Memphis
If you are reading this while sitting in a hospital waiting room, a quiet kitchen after a long day of assisting a parent, or in the few minutes of peace you get while a loved one is napping: know this: we see you. More importantly, God sees you.
Caregiving is often called the "invisible ministry." It’s the late-night sessions of monitoring breathing, the endless coordination of medication, and the emotional weight of watching someone you love struggle with their health. It is a beautiful, sacrificial act of love, but let’s be honest: it’s also exhausting.
According to recent studies, nearly 1 in 5 Americans are family caregivers. While the role is filled with purpose, it also carries a high risk of isolation, burnout, and even depression. At Boundless Online Church, we believe that healing and recovery aren't just for the person receiving care; they are vital for the caregiver, too.
The Weight of the "Long Haul"
When you first step into a caregiving role, adrenaline often carries you through. You’re focused on the logistics, the doctors, and the immediate needs. But as weeks turn into months, or years, that adrenaline fades. You might start to feel like your own life has been put on "pause."
We often talk about "waiting with purpose" in our faith journeys. If you’re feeling stuck in a season of waiting for a breakthrough, you might find some comfort in our post on waiting with purpose. It reminds us that God doesn't waste our time, even when we feel like we're just standing still in a hallway or a bedroom.
The spiritual toll of caregiving is real. You might find yourself asking, "Where is God in this fatigue?" or "Why is this recovery taking so long?" These aren't signs of weak faith; they are honest cries of a weary heart.

Finding Strength in the Comforter
In the Assemblies of God tradition, we lean heavily on the person of the Holy Spirit. We believe the Holy Spirit is our Comforter and our Advocate. When you don't have the words to pray because you're simply too tired, the Spirit intercedes for you.
Scripture gives us several anchors to hold onto during these seasons:
Matthew 11:28: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
Isaiah 40:31: "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."
Psalm 34:18: "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
Resting in God doesn’t always mean taking a nap (though we highly recommend those when possible!). It means shifting the burden from your shoulders to His. You were never meant to carry the weight of someone else’s health and future entirely on your own.
Practical Support: You Don’t Have to Walk Alone
Faith-based support is about more than just prayer: it’s about the "hands and feet" of Jesus. Research shows that faith communities are uniquely positioned to help caregivers through practical means. This can include:
Respite Care: Sometimes, you just need an hour to go to the grocery store or sit in a park. Faith communities often have volunteers who can provide companionship to your loved one while you take a much-needed breather.
Meal Trains: Nutrition is often the first thing to go when you’re busy caring for others. Having a community that brings over a hot meal can be a massive stress-reliever.
Peer Support: Talking to someone who has "been there" is incredibly healing. Whether it’s a formal support group or a casual chat with a friend from the Boundless community, sharing your story reduces the power of isolation.
Technology Education: Many caregivers struggle with the digital side of modern healthcare. Faith-based programs often help bridge this gap, ensuring you have the tools to manage care effectively.
If you find yourself needing a place to jot down thoughts, medical notes, or even just your frustrations and prayers, we have a few tools that might help. Using a spiral notebook or a dedicated notepad can be a simple way to clear your head and keep things organized during the chaos.

Self-Care is Stewardship
There is a common misconception that self-care is selfish, especially when someone else is suffering. But think of it this way: your body and mind are gifts from God. Caring for them is an act of stewardship.
You cannot pour from an empty cup. If you are physically and spiritually depleted, you won't be able to provide the level of care your loved one needs. Taking time to hydrate, move your body, and feed your soul isn't a luxury: it’s a requirement for the journey.
Even something as simple as carrying a reliable water bottle can be a small reminder to take care of yourself throughout the day. Or, on those particularly cold mornings or late nights in a chilly hospital room, throwing on a comfortable sweatshirt can provide a tiny bit of physical comfort.
The Power of Community and Prayer
One of the hardest parts of caregiving is the feeling that the world is moving on without you. Everyone else is going to work, going on vacations, and posting highlight reels, while you are measuring out doses of medicine.
This is where the online church community becomes a lifeline. We are a global family of shift workers, stay-at-home parents, and caregivers who understand that "church" isn't just a building you visit on Sunday morning. It’s a connection we share 24/7.
We invite you to explore our media section for encouraging messages you can listen to while you work or rest. You don't have to be in a pew to experience the presence of God. He is right there in the room with you.

A Prayer for the Caregiver
Lord, we lift up every caregiver reading this today. We ask for a supernatural infusion of strength and patience. When their energy is low, be their fuel. When their heart is heavy, be their peace. We pray for the recovery and healing of their loved ones, but today, we specifically pray for the heart of the one providing the care. Remind them that they are loved, valued, and never forgotten. Wrap them in Your comfort and provide them with the practical help they need. Amen.
