A Message from FA Memphis
Caregiving is often a quiet, behind-the-scenes ministry.
Whether you are looking after an aging parent, a spouse with a chronic illness, or a child with special needs, your days are filled with tasks that others might never see. You are the cook, the driver, the nurse, and the emotional anchor. It is a beautiful, selfless expression of love.
But let’s be honest: it is also exhausting.
If you are feeling drained today, you aren’t alone. The physical demands are one thing, but the emotional and spiritual weight can feel even heavier. You might feel like you’re running on empty, wondering where the strength for tomorrow will come from.
At Boundless Online Church, we want you to know that your work is seen, not just by us, but by God. We believe that in the middle of your busiest, hardest days, there is a secret strength available to you. That strength isn't found in a better schedule or a new vitamin; it’s found in a Person.
The Invitation to the Weary
Jesus knew what it was like to be surrounded by people with deep needs. He spent His earthly ministry healing the sick, comforting the mourning, and feeding the hungry. He understands the "virtue" that goes out of you when you give of yourself constantly.
In Matthew 11:28, He gives us one of the most beautiful invitations in the Bible: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
For a caregiver, "rest" often feels like an impossible dream. You might think, “I can’t rest. If I stop, everything falls apart.” But the rest Jesus offers isn't just about taking a nap (though sleep is a gift from God!). He is talking about a deep, soul-level restoration.
He doesn't say, "Get your life in order and then come to me." He says, "Come to me while you are weary." He wants to carry the heavy end of the yoke with you.

Jesus: The Ultimate Caregiver
One of the core beliefs we hold dear is that Jesus is our High Priest who can sympathize with our weaknesses. He isn't a distant God watching from afar. He became human. He felt physical pain, emotional betrayal, and the weight of human suffering.
Because He descended into the depths of human struggle, His heart is filled with mercy for you. When you are sitting in a hospital room at 3:00 AM, He is there. When you are frustrated because you’ve explained the same thing ten times, He understands.
Jesus modeled the heart of a caregiver. He was moved with compassion when He saw the crowds. He didn't just see "patients" or "problems"; He saw people. When you care for your family member, you are literally being the hands and feet of Jesus. You are participating in His work of binding up the brokenhearted.
The Myth of the "Selfish" Break
Many caregivers struggle with guilt. You might feel that taking time for yourself is selfish or that you are failing the person you love if you aren't "on" 24/7.
But look at the life of Jesus. Even though the needs of the world were pressing in on Him, He frequently withdrew to "lonely places" to pray and connect with His Father. He knew that to give out, He had to be filled up.
Prioritizing your spiritual health is not a luxury; it’s a necessity. It is "essential maintenance" that allows you to continue your calling. When you take time to sit in God’s presence, even if it’s just for ten minutes with a cup of coffee and a Psalm, you are replenishing the reserves of patience and compassion you need for your loved one.
Think of it like the safety briefing on an airplane: you have to put on your own oxygen mask before you can help the person next to you. If you run out of air, you can’t help anyone.

Strength Through the Holy Spirit
As part of the Assemblies of God fellowship, we believe in the power of the Holy Spirit to empower us for daily living. This isn't just for "big" miracles; it’s for the miracle of keeping your peace when things get chaotic.
The Holy Spirit is often called the "Comforter" or the "Helper." He is literally the One called alongside to help. When your own strength hits a wall, you can ask for a fresh infilling of the Spirit.
Patience is a fruit of the Spirit.
Kindness is a fruit of the Spirit.
Peace is a fruit of the Spirit.
These aren't things you have to conjure up on your own. They are the natural result of staying connected to the Vine. If you feel short-tempered or resentful today, don't beat yourself up. Just turn back to the Source.
Practical Ways to Find Rest in Jesus
Finding rest doesn't always require a week-long retreat. It happens in the small, intentional moments of your day.
Start with Surrender: Before you even get out of bed, tell the Lord, "I can't do this today on my own. I need Your strength."
Use "Micro-Prayers": You don't need an hour for a prayer meeting. Use the time while you’re washing dishes or driving to the pharmacy to talk to God. Short bursts of "Lord, give me peace" or "Thank You for Your help" keep your heart aligned with Him.
Read the Word in Small Bites: Keep a Bible app open or a physical Bible on the counter. Even one verse, like Psalm 34:18: "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted", can sustain you for hours.
Connect with Community: Caregiving can be incredibly isolating. Don't carry the burden alone. Whether it's through our online worship services or a quick text to a friend, stay connected to the Body of Christ.

A Promise for Your Future
Sometimes, the hardest part of caregiving is the uncertainty. You might wonder how long this season will last or what the end will look like.
We serve a God who holds the future. One of our 16 Fundamental Truths is "The Blessed Hope", the reality that Jesus is coming back and will make all things new. One day, there will be no more sickness, no more pain, and no more need for caregiving because every tear will be wiped away.
Until then, we walk by faith. We trust that the same God who provides "daily bread" also provides "daily strength." You are doing a holy work. You are showing the world what the love of Christ looks like in action.
Dr. Layne McDonald, our Online and Connection Pastor, often reminds us that "faith is a journey we take together." You don't have to walk this road in silence or in isolation.
If you are feeling overwhelmed right now, we invite you to reach out. You don't have to explain everything. You can just say, "I'm a caregiver and I'm tired." We would love to pray with you and stand in the gap for you.
A Prayer for the Caregiver
Lord Jesus, I lift up the one reading this today who feels the weight of the world on their shoulders. You see every tear shed in private and every act of service done in love. I ask that right now, in this moment, they would feel Your tangible presence.
Grant them the "peace that passes understanding." Give them physical strength where they are weak, and spiritual joy where they are discouraged. Help them to see their loved one through Your eyes. Remind them that they are not alone, and that Your grace is sufficient for this very hour. Amen.
