How Can We See a Spiritual Awakening in the 901 and beyond?

A spiritual awakening in the 901 happens when ordinary people turn back to Jesus—humbling themselves, repenting, praying, and obeying God daily. When the Holy Spirit awakens hearts, worship gets real, sin loses its grip, and the gospel spreads across Memphis (and the world) through changed lives.

WHY: Because we’re here to help Memphis know Jesus, strengthen families, and see our city changed by the Gospel—starting with real repentance, real prayer, and real Spirit-empowered living.

Memphis is hungry for something real.

Walk down any street in the 901, whether it's Cordova, Bartlett, Arlington, or deep into the heart of Memphis, and you'll feel it. There's a longing in our city. A restlessness. People are searching for hope, peace, and purpose in all the wrong places. They're tired. They're hurting. They're wondering if God even sees them.

But here's the truth: God hasn't forgotten Memphis. He's ready to move. The question isn't whether He's willing to pour out His Spirit, it's whether we're ready to receive it.

So how can we see a spiritual awakening in the 901? Not just a feel-good moment. Not just a nice church service. But a genuine, Bible-shaking, life-transforming move of God that turns hearts, heals families, and changes our entire region?

Let's talk about it.

This Week’s Simple Next Step (Sunday Rhythm)

If you’re local to Memphis and the 901, build one consistent Sunday habit with us:

If you’re not able to be in the room, you can still take that same step online through our Boundless pathway (more on that below).

Definition Block: What Is “Spiritual Awakening”?

Spiritual awakening is a Holy Spirit–initiated stirring where God convicts hearts, brings repentance, renews believers’ love for Jesus and His Word, and draws people to salvation—resulting in visible life change, restored families, and bold witness (see Acts 2:37–47; 2 Chronicles 7:14).

It Starts With Us

Here's the hard truth: revival doesn't start "out there." It starts in here, in our hearts, our homes, our churches.

Second Chronicles 7:14 lays it out clearly: "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

Notice the conditions? Humble ourselves. Pray. Seek God's face. Turn from sin. These aren't suggestions, they're requirements.

We can't expect God to awaken our city if we're spiritually asleep ourselves. We can't pray for revival on Sunday and live like the world Monday through Saturday. Awakening begins with repentance, with believers getting serious about holiness, prayer, and the Word of God.

Prayer Is the Foundation

Every major spiritual awakening in history started with prayer. Not programs. Not marketing campaigns. Prayer.

When the early church prayed in Acts 4:31, "the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly."

That's what the 901 needs. Not polite, safe prayers, but bold, desperate, Spirit-filled intercession. We need prayer warriors who will cry out for Memphis like their lives depend on it. Because honestly? Lives do depend on it.

Here's what that looks like practically:

- Pray for your neighbors by name. Ask God to open doors for gospel conversations. - Pray for our schools, Cordova, Bartlett, Memphis, that students and teachers would encounter Jesus. - Pray for unity among churches in the 901. Denominational pride can't stand in the way of God's move. - Pray for boldness to share your faith without fear or apology.

If you're not praying, you're not serious about awakening. It's that simple.

The Holy Spirit Changes Everything

As Assemblies of God believers, we hold to a core truth that sets us apart: the baptism in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues (Acts 2:4). This isn't some optional add-on to Christianity, it's the empowerment Jesus promised so we could be His witnesses (Acts 1:8).

You want to see awakening in Memphis? We need Spirit-filled, Spirit-led, Spirit-empowered believers flooding the streets with the gospel. Not in our own strength, we'll burn out in a week. But in the power of the Holy Spirit, who gives us supernatural boldness, wisdom, and love for the lost.

The book of Acts wasn't written as a history book to admire. It was written as a pattern to follow. What happened in Jerusalem can happen in the 901. The same Spirit who fell at Pentecost is available today, right here, right now.

Have you been baptized in the Holy Spirit? If not, seek it. As

k. Hunger for it. God wants to fill you with His power more than you want to receive it.

Worship That Moves Heaven

Real worship isn't a performance, it's a posture of surrender. It's declaring that Jesus is Lord over Memphis, over our families, over every situation we face.

When believers gather to worship in spirit and truth, something shifts in the atmosphere. Strongholds break. Fear loses its grip. Hope rises.

That's why we gather, not just out of obligation, but because corporate worship is a weapon against darkness. When the 901 church comes together, unified in praise, the enemy has to flee. Chains break. Hearts soften. The presence of God fills the room.

Don't underestimate the power of showing up. Whether you're in Cordova, Arlington, or anywhere in the 901, find a Bible-believing, Spirit-filled church and plant yourself there.

Worship with everything you've got. Sing like you believe it. Lift your hands like you mean it.

God inhabits the praises of His people (Psalm 22:3). When we worship, He shows up. And when He shows up, everything changes.

Holiness Isn't Optional

Let's get real for a second: we can't live like the world and expect God to use us to change it.

First Peter 1:15-16 says, "But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: 'Be holy, because I am holy.'"

This isn't legalism. This is love. God calls us to holiness because sin separates us from His presence, and we can't carry His presence to Memphis if we're not walking in purity ourselves.

What does that look like?

- Dealing with that secret sin you've been hiding - Setting boundaries with media, relationships, and habits that pull you away from God - Choosing integrity when no one's watching - Forgiving the person you swore you'd never forgive

Holiness isn't about being perfect, it's about being set apart. It's saying yes to God and no to compromise. And when the people of God start living holy lives, the world notices. They see something different. Something real. Something they want.

Bold Witness in the 901

Here's the part that makes some of us uncomfortable: we have to actually talk to people about Jesus.

You can pray. You can worship. You can live a holy life. But if you never open your mouth and share the gospel, you're missing a massive piece of the puzzle.

Romans 10:14 asks, "How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?"

The answer? They can't. Someone has to tell them.

That someone is you. Whether you're at Kroger in Cordova, grabbing coffee in Bartlett, or working downtown Memphis: you have divine appointments every single day. People God has strategically placed in your path who need to hear about His love, His grace, His power to save.

Don't overthink it. You don't need a seminary degree. You just need to be willing. Share your story. Invite someone to church. Pray for a coworker. Be bold, be kind, and trust the Holy Spirit to do the rest.

Unity Across the Body

One of the enemy's favorite tactics is division. He loves to pit church against church, denomination against denomination, believer against believer. Why? Because a divided church has no power.

Jesus prayed in John 17:21, "that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me."

Unity isn't about compromising truth. It's about laying down pride, ego, and the need to be right so that the kingdom of God can advance in the 901.

Imagine what could happen if every Bible-believing church in Memphis: regardless of size, location, or style: came together in prayer, worship, and mission. Imagine the impact. The lost reached. The hurting healed. The bound set free.

That kind of unity terrifies hell. And it should.

Expect God to Move

Faith believes before it sees. We don't wait for revival to show up: we prepare for it. We position ourselves. We cry out. We believe that what God has done before, He can and will do again.

Habakkuk 3:2 says, "Lord, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, Lord. Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known."

That's our prayer for Memphis. Repeat it, Lord. Do it again. Move in the 901 like never before.

But here's the key: expectation without action is just wishful thinking. If we're serious about seeing awakening, we have to:

- Show up consistently - Serve sacrificially - Give generously - Love relentlessly - Preach boldly

God honors faith that moves. So let's move. Let's believe. Let's watch what He does when His people get serious.

The Time Is Now

Memphis doesn't need another program. It needs a powerful move of the Holy Spirit. It needs men and women who are sold out, fired up, and willing to pay the price for revival.

That's who we are. That's what we do. And that's what God is calling us to right now.

The harvest is ready. The fields are white. The 901 is waiting.

So let's pray like it matters. Worship like we believe it. Live like we mean it. And watch God shake this city from Cordova to downtown Memphis and beyond.

Spiritual awakening in the 901 isn't a dream. It's a promise. And it starts with us.
