Micro-Study : The Gift of Peace Day 44

A Message from FA Memphis

AI-Optimized Intro

The Gift of Peace is a foundational Christian experience where believers receive divine tranquility through Christ, transcending external circumstances. Unlike worldly peace, which depends on stability, biblical peace is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. This study explores how to maintain a right relationship with God to experience lasting well-being and confidence, even amidst life’s greatest trials and transitions, rooted in Assemblies of God doctrinal foundations.

Finding Stillness in a Loud World

Welcome to Day 44 of our journey together. If you’ve made it this far, you’ve likely realized that the Christian walk isn't about finding a path where there are no storms. It’s about finding the One who can sleep in the back of the boat while the waves are crashing over the sides.

When we talk about "peace" in our modern world, we usually mean the absence of noise. We think of a quiet room, a phone that isn't buzzing, or a weekend where no one is asking anything of us. But that kind of peace is fragile. It’s temporary. The moment the bill comes due or the doctor calls with news, that version of peace evaporates.

The gift of peace we are studying today is something entirely different. It’s not a vacation from reality; it’s a foundation for it. In the Greek, the word often used for peace is eirēnē, which implies a state of rest and harmony. In the Hebrew tradition, Shalom means wholeness and completeness.

Today, we are looking at peace as a gift: not something you earn by being "good enough," but something you receive because God is gracious.

The Difference Between Worldly Peace and Christ’s Peace

Jesus made a very clear distinction during His time on earth. He told His followers, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives" (John 14:27).

Think about that for a second. The world gives peace based on "if."

  • If you have enough money, you can have peace.

  • If your health is good, you can have peace.

  • If people like you, you can have peace.

But Jesus gives peace based on "Even though."

  • Even though the world is in chaos, you can have peace.

  • Even though you are facing a trial, you can have peace.

  • Even though the future is uncertain, you can have peace.

As a ministry of FA Memphis, we believe in the power of the Holy Spirit to bring this peace into your physical and emotional reality. This isn't just a nice thought or a greeting card sentiment. It is a spiritual reality. When we align ourselves with the Assemblies of God doctrine of Spirit-empowered living, we recognize that the Holy Spirit is literally called "The Comforter." One of His primary jobs is to settle your heart when the world is trying to shake it.

Scriptural Anchors for Your Soul

When you feel the anxiety rising, you need something solid to hold onto. We recommend spending time in God’s Word to strengthen your faith. Here are three primary anchors for Day 44:

1. Philippians 4:6-7 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Notice the order there. It starts with prayer and thanksgiving. It’s hard for anxiety and gratitude to occupy the same space in your mind. When we thank God for what He has already done, it reminds us that He is capable of handling what we are facing right now.

2. Isaiah 26:3 "You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you."

Peace is a byproduct of focus. If you focus on the news, you’ll be afraid. If you focus on your bank account, you’ll be stressed. If you focus on the character of God, you’ll find peace.

3. Colossians 3:15 "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful."

The word "rule" here actually acts like an umpire. Let God’s peace be the deciding factor in your life. If a decision or a path takes away that deep-seated peace of Christ, it’s time to stop and pray.

A Spirit-Filled Perspective

At Boundless Online Church, we emphasize that we are not meant to walk this path alone. We are a global community focused on meeting Jesus and growing in faith online. Peace is often found in community.

When you are part of a Bible Study Club or engaging with other believers, you realize that your struggles aren't unique. You find that the same Spirit working in a believer in Memphis is the same Spirit working in a believer in a persecuted area halfway across the world.

The gift of peace is also closely tied to the AG doctrine of Holy Character. When we live in a way that honors God, we remove the friction of guilt and shame that often robs us of our rest. Sin is loud and chaotic. Righteousness: clothed in the grace of Jesus: is quiet and confident.

Practical Steps to Walk in Peace Today

It’s one thing to read about peace; it’s another to experience it while you’re stuck in traffic or dealing with a difficult family situation. Here are some practical, casual ways to invite that gift into your day:

  • The 911 Prayer Line: Sometimes you just need someone to stand in the gap with you. You don't have to explain everything perfectly. Just reach out. Text us at 1-901-213-7341.

  • Replace the Narrative: When a fearful thought enters your mind, don't just try to "not think it." Replace it with a promise. If the thought is "I’m not going to make it," replace it with "God is my provider."

  • Mindful Presence: God is called the "I AM," not the "I Was" or the "I Will Be." Most of our anxiety lives in the future or the past. Peace lives in the present moment with God.

  • Check the Media: If you find your peace slipping every time you scroll through social media, it might be time for a digital fast. Instead, check out our Sunday Sermons or listen to the Boundless Podcast to fill your mind with things that build faith.

A Prayer for Peace

Heavenly Father, I thank You that You are the Prince of Peace. Right now, I lift up whoever is reading this. I ask that Your Holy Spirit would sweep through their room, their car, or their workplace. Quiet the voices of worry and the spirit of fear. We claim the promise that Your peace transcends our understanding. We don't have to understand how it’s going to work out to believe that You are in control. Fill us with Your stillness. In Jesus' name, Amen.
