Unlimited Access: Jesus in the Midst of Chronic Pain

Chronic pain is a lonely road.

If you are reading this from a sofa, a hospital bed, or a darkened room while the rest of the world seems to be moving at full speed, I want you to know something right away: you are seen.

Often, when we talk about faith and illness, the conversation jumps straight to the "miracle testimony." We love the stories where the pain vanishes instantly. And while we absolutely believe in the power of God to heal, there is a different kind of "Unlimited Access" we need to talk about today.

It’s the access to Jesus in the middle of the mess. It’s the presence of God that sits with you when the medication isn't working and the nights are long.

At Boundless Online Church, we believe that your physical limitations do not limit your spiritual life. You have a seat at the table, even if that table is a bedside tray.

The Man of Sorrows Knows Your Name

It is easy to feel like God is distant when your body feels like a prison. You might wonder if He understands what it’s like to have nerves that fire for no reason or joints that refuse to move.

But the Bible tells us that Jesus isn't a distant observer. Isaiah 53:3 describes Him as a "man of suffering, and familiar with pain."

When Jesus took on human flesh, He didn’t take a "lite" version of humanity. He felt hunger. He felt exhaustion. And ultimately, on the cross, He felt physical agony that most of us cannot even fathom.

He didn't just watch suffering from heaven; He entered into it.

This is part of the core 16 Fundamental Truths we hold onto. We believe in a Savior who is fully God and fully man. Because He is man, He relates to your struggle. Because He is God, He has the power to carry you through it.

When the "Thorn" Doesn't Go Away

We often talk about the Apostle Paul as this spiritual giant who traveled the world. But Paul lived with what he called a "thorn in the flesh."

We don’t know exactly what it was: some think it was a physical ailment or chronic eye trouble: but we know he begged God to take it away. Three times he pleaded for relief.

God’s answer wasn't a "no," but it also wasn't the "yes" Paul expected. God said, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness" (2 Corinthians 12:9).

If you are living with chronic pain, you are a living canvas for the power of God. When you choose to trust Him despite the physical "thorn," you are demonstrating a level of faith that is incredibly precious.

In our fellowship, we believe in Divine Healing (one of our Fundamental Truths). We pray for it, we expect it, and we post our needs on the prayer wall because we know God hears us.

But we also recognize that sometimes, the greatest miracle is the "sustaining grace" that allows you to find joy in the midst of the fire.

Unlimited Access from the Sofa

One of the hardest parts of chronic illness is the "missing out." You miss the parties, the work meetings, and often, the traditional church services.

It’s easy to feel like a "second-class" Christian because you can't stand for thirty minutes of worship or sit in a hard pew for an hour.

When your body is failing, your spirit can be renewed by the power of the Holy Ghost. This isn't just "positive thinking." It is a supernatural infusion of strength.

There is a peace that passes understanding. It’s the kind of peace that lets you sleep when the pain is shouting. It’s the kind of strength that helps you be kind to your caregivers when you feel like complaining.

If you feel empty, ask the Holy Spirit to fill you right where you are. You don't need a special laying on of hands in a physical building. The Spirit of God is in the room with you right now.

Living with Purpose in the "In-Between"

It’s hard to feel like you have a "purpose" when your daily goals consist of just making it to the kitchen and back.

But in God's kingdom, your value is not tied to your productivity. You are not a human "doing"; you are a human "being."

Some of the most powerful prayer warriors in the world are those who are housebound. Your "unlimited access" to the throne of God means you can intercede for your family, your neighbors, and the world in a way that those of us distracted by a busy schedule often forget to do.

Your endurance is a testimony. When people see you holding onto your faith despite your circumstances, it points them to a reality that is bigger than physical health. It points them to Jesus.

Finally, we hold onto the hope of the "Blessed Hope": the return of Jesus.

As part of our doctrine, we believe that one day, these broken bodies will be exchanged for glorified ones. There will be no more tears, no more prescriptions, no more wheelchairs, and no more "thorns."

Every ache you feel today is a reminder that this world is not our final home. We are just passing through, and we are headed toward a city where the Master Physician will wipe every tear from our eyes.
