“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God.” James 1:5.
Welcome to the Boundless Bible Study Podcast. I’m Dr. Layne McDonald, and I’m so glad you are here. Today’s Bible study is called What To Do When You Do Not Know What To Do, and we are opening God’s Word for those moments when life feels unclear and the next step is hard to see.
James 1:5 says if anyone lacks wisdom, they should ask God, who gives generously. That is such a tender invitation. God does not mock you for needing wisdom. He does not shame you for not having the answer. He invites you to ask.
Proverbs 3:5 and 6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” That verse does not mean you stop thinking. It means your understanding is not the foundation. God is. Your mind matters, but your mind was never meant to replace surrender.
Psalm 32:8 says, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go.” God is not just the God of big miracles. He is the God of daily guidance. He can lead you in conversations, decisions, relationships, finances, ministry, parenting, and quiet personal choices nobody else even knows you are facing.
Sometimes we want God to show us the whole road, but Psalm 119:105 says His Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. A lamp does not show the next ten miles. It gives enough light for the next step. And sometimes faith is simply taking the next step God has made clear.
So today, ask for wisdom. Open Scripture. Pray honestly. Wait humbly. And when God gives you the next step, take it with faith.

Let me close with Psalm 37:23: “The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him.”
Lord, guide our steps. Give us wisdom, patience, and trust when we do not know what to do. Amen.
