Boundless Bible Study 19 - Faith When You Cannot See the Next Step

“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1.

Welcome to the Boundless Bible Study Podcast. I’m Dr. Layne McDonald, and I’m so glad you are here. Today’s Bible study is called Faith When You Cannot See the Next Step, and we are opening Scripture for those seasons when you are following God without having every detail.

Hebrews 11:1 says faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. That means faith does not require full visibility. Faith requires trust in the One who sees what we cannot.

Second Corinthians 5:7 says, “We live by faith, not by sight.” Sight wants proof before obedience. Faith says, “Lord, if You are leading, I will follow.” That can feel scary, especially when the road ahead is unclear. But God has never needed our full understanding to be fully faithful.

Psalm 119:105 says God’s Word is a lamp for our feet and a light on our path. A lamp gives enough light to take the next step. It does not always show the whole journey. Many times, God leads us one act of obedience at a time.

Abraham did not have every detail when God called him. Peter did not know everything when Jesus said, “Follow me.” Mary did not understand everything when she said, “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Faith often begins before explanations arrive.

So today, do not despise the small step God has made clear. Read the Word. Pray. Seek wisdom. Obey what you know. Trust God with what you do not.

Let me close with Proverbs 16:9: “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”

Lord, help us walk by faith when we cannot see the whole road. Amen.
