Christian Living : Looking for Divine Healing? Here Are 10 Things You Should Know
A Message from FA Memphis
Divine healing is God’s restoring work in our lives—body, mind, and spirit—through the power of the Holy Spirit, made possible by what Jesus did for us on the cross. If you’re looking for healing today, I want you to know right away: you are never forgotten, never alone, and you are deeply loved by God.
Exodus 15:26 (NIV): "He said, 'If you listen carefully to the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you.'"
Isaiah 53:5 (NIV): "But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed."
James 5:14-15 (NIV): "Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven."
Matthew 9:22 (NIV): "Jesus turned and saw her. 'Take heart, daughter,' he said, 'your faith has healed you.' And the woman was healed at that moment."
If you are searching for healing today, I want you to know one thing right off the bat: you are never forgotten, never alone, and you are deeply loved by God. Whether you’re dealing with a physical ailment that won't quit, or an emotional weight that feels like a lead vest, God cares about your wholeness. When we talk about healing at Boundless, we aren't just talking about a "nice idea", we’re talking about a core promise of the Gospel. As we dive into these truths, remember that the Assemblies of God worldview IS the guardrails. We stay anchored in the Word so we don’t drift into confusion or false hope, but stay centered on the One who makes all things new.

1. God is the Source
The very first thing to understand is that divine healing isn't a "magic trick" or something we conjure up. It comes exclusively from God. In the Old Testament, He revealed Himself as Jehovah-Rapha, which literally means "The Lord who heals." Healing is a manifestation of His compassion and His power. It’s not about how hard you "work" for it; it’s about Who He is. He is a Father who loves to give good gifts to His children.
2. It’s Rooted in Christ’s Atonement
This is a big one. We believe that healing is provided for in the atonement, the redemptive work of Jesus on the cross. When Isaiah says, "By His stripes we are healed," it tells us that Jesus didn't just come to save our souls for eternity; He came to address the brokenness of our entire being. Sin brought death and sickness into the world, and Jesus came to defeat the works of the enemy. Healing is a "benefit" of the cross that we can approach with humble confidence.
3. The Power of the Holy Spirit
Divine healing is often closely linked with the Holy Spirit. While we serve a God of order, we also serve a God of power. Many believers find that as they seek the Holy Spirit Baptism, they experience a new level of spiritual vitality. The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead lives in you! This isn't just a theological phrase; it’s a living reality. The Spirit empowers the believer and often serves as the "conduit" through which God’s healing power flows into our physical bodies.
4. Faith Plays a Role, But God is Sovereign
We see Jesus often saying, "Your faith has made you well." Faith is like reaching out and grabbing the hem of His garment. However, it’s also important to know that God is sovereign. Sometimes people are healed who didn't even know to ask, and other times, we pray with all our might and healing looks different than we expected. We don't "command" God; we trust Him. Faith isn't a formula to get what we want; it's a relationship of trust in the One who knows what is best for us.

5. Healing is Holistic
Don't put God in a box! Divine healing isn't just about a broken bone or a fever. It covers your mind, your emotions, and your spirit. In today’s digital age, we see so much emotional trauma and anxiety. This is where we need to be wise. For emotional wellness, I always recommend keeping your "digital gates" clean. Tools like Bark and Covenant Eyes are fantastic for accountability and safety, and if you're looking for clean entertainment while you recover, check out VidAngel or “Enjoy Movies Your Way.” God wants your heart to be as healthy as your body.
6. God Works Through Many Channels
Some people think that if you go to a doctor, you don't have faith. That couldn't be further from the truth! We believe all truth is God’s truth. God created the human mind and the science that allows doctors to perform surgery and create medicine. Whether God heals you instantly through a miracle in a prayer line or through the skilled hands of a surgeon over six months, He gets the glory. We pray for the "Divine Healing" and we thank Him for the "Medical Healing." Both are gifts from the Father.
7. It is Available to All Believers
You don't need a special "title" to pray for the sick. Divine healing is a spiritual gift and a privilege that belongs to every follower of Christ. In the Great Commission, Jesus told us that those who believe would lay hands on the sick and they would recover. If you are a child of God, you have the right to ask for healing and the authority to pray for others. You are a part of the Church’s broader ministry of reconciliation and restoration.
8. Community Involvement Matters
Healing isn't meant to be a solo journey. James tells us to "call the elders" and to "pray for one another." There is something powerful that happens when the community of believers gathers together. When we carry each other’s burdens, the weight gets lighter. If you’re feeling isolated in your struggle, reach out. Our Prayer Wall and Bible Study groups are there because we aren't meant to do this alone. There is strength in numbers and power in united intercession.

9. It is Temporary, Not Ultimate
This might sound surprising, but every person Jesus healed in the New Testament eventually died. Lazarus was raised from the dead, but he eventually passed away again. Divine healing in this life is a temporary fix for these mortal bodies. It's a "down payment" on the ultimate healing that is coming. One day, we will receive incorruptible bodies that will never know pain, cancer, or sorrow again. We celebrate the healings today while keeping our eyes fixed on the resurrection to come.
10. It is a Sign of the Kingdom
Finally, divine healing serves as a signpost. It points to the fact that the Kingdom of God is "at hand." Every time someone is healed, it’s a declaration that Jesus has victory over death and decay. It’s a preview of the new creation. It shouldn't just make us comfortable; it should make us worship. Healing is meant to draw people to the Healer. If you receive a miracle, use it as a testimony to tell others about the grace and love of Jesus.
Lord, I lift up the person reading this right now. You know exactly where they are hurting, whether it’s a physical pain that won't go away, a mind filled with anxiety, or a spirit that feels broken. I pray that the power of the Holy Spirit would touch them right now. Bring Your comfort, Your peace, and Your supernatural restoration. We stand on the promise that by Your stripes, we are healed. Give them the strength to trust You in the waiting and the joy to praise You in the victory. In Jesus' name, Amen.
