Christian Living : Looking for Divine Healing? Here Are 5 Things You Should Know

Jul 21
5 min read

Divine healing is the supernatural act of God bringing restoration to the human body, mind, or spirit. Rooted in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, it remains a vital part of the believer's experience today. Understanding how the Holy Spirit works in this process helps us approach God with confidence, expectancy, and a heart open to His miraculous power.

Isaiah 53:4-5 (NIV): "Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed."

James 5:14-15 (NIV): "Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven."

Matthew 8:17 (NIV): "This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: 'He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases.'"

When we talk about divine healing, we aren’t just talking about a historical event or a nice sentiment. We are talking about a present-day reality made possible through the Holy Spirit. If you are seeking a touch from God, it’s important to understand the foundation of this promise. At Boundless, we believe that God is still in the business of doing the impossible. As we navigate these truths, remember that the Assemblies of God worldview IS the guardrails.

1. Healing is Provided in the Atonement

The first thing you should know is that healing isn't an "extra" or a "maybe" in the Christian life; it is a fundamental part of what Jesus accomplished on the Cross. When we look at Isaiah 53, we see a beautiful and powerful picture of the "Great Exchange." Jesus didn't just take away our sins; He took our sicknesses and our pains.

This means that when we pray for divine healing, we are standing on legal ground provided by the blood of Christ. In our Assemblies of God tradition, we recognize divine healing as an integral part of the Gospel. It is the privilege of all believers to trust God for physical and emotional restoration because Jesus paid for it in full. When I look at the needs around us, I am reminded that God’s grace covers every dimension of our existence, not just the spiritual, but the physical too.

2. The Holy Spirit is the Catalyst for Miracles

You cannot talk about divine healing without talking about the Holy Spirit. Often, people search for healing as if it’s a formula or a magic trick, but it is actually a person, the third person of the Trinity, moving in our lives. Specifically, the Holy Spirit Baptism is a gateway to a deeper experience with God’s power.

When the Holy Spirit fell on the early church in the book of Acts, it wasn't just for speaking in tongues; it was for empowerment. That same power that raised Christ from the dead lives in you! If you are seeking divine healing, I encourage you to seek the fullness of the Spirit. Being filled with the Spirit sensitizes our hearts to God’s voice and builds our faith to believe for the miraculous. It’s the Holy Spirit who applies the healing touch of Jesus to our broken bodies.

3. Prayer and Community Are Essential

While God can certainly heal you while you’re alone in your room, He has designed the Church to be a place of collective faith. James 5 tells us to call for the elders and to pray for one another. There is something incredibly powerful about "agreement." When we come together in a Bible study or a prayer meeting, our combined faith creates an environment where miracles can happen.

I’ve seen the Holy Spirit moving when people lay down their pride and ask for help. Healing often begins with a conversation and a prayer. This is why we place such a high value on community at Boundless. We aren't meant to carry our burdens alone. Whether you need a physical miracle or an emotional breakthrough, inviting others to stand with you in faith is a biblical step toward your wholeness.

4. Friday Families: Healing Through Rest and Detox

Since it’s Friday, I want to touch on a practical side of healing that we often overlook: the health of our homes and minds. Sometimes, the "healing" we need is a restoration of peace. Our modern world is incredibly loud, and the constant noise from our devices can create a state of chronic stress that affects our physical health.

As part of your journey toward divine healing, I suggest a digital detox this weekend. Set the phones aside, turn off the news, and spend quality time with your family. Go for a walk outside or sit together and share what God is doing in your lives. If you decide to watch a movie as a family, please make sure you're using family-safe clean versions via VidAngel or "Enjoy Movies Your Way." Protecting our eyes and ears from toxic content is a form of spiritual stewardship. For your children’s safety, I always recommend using tools like Bark and Covenant Eyes to keep your digital environment clean. A peaceful mind is a fertile ground for a healthy body.

5. Faith is the Key, but Sovereignty is the Context

Finally, it is important to understand that while we pray with bold faith, we also rest in the sovereignty of God. Faith is not about demanding that God do our will; it’s about trusting Him completely with our lives. Sometimes healing is instantaneous, sometimes it is a process, and sometimes God provides the strength to endure while we wait for His perfect timing.

Seeking divine healing requires a heart that says, "Lord, I believe you are able, and I trust you with the outcome." We don't use faith as a weapon to judge those who haven't been healed yet. Instead, we use it as a bridge to bring people closer to the Heart of the Father. No matter where you are in your journey, whether you are celebrating a miracle or still waiting for one, you are never forgotten, you are never alone, and you are deeply loved by God.

A Prayer for Your Healing

Heavenly Father, I pray for my friend reading this right now. You know the pain they carry and the healing they need. I thank you that by the wounds of Jesus, we are healed. I ask for the Holy Spirit to move powerfully in their life right now. Strengthen their body, quiet their mind, and fill their heart with your peace. We stand on your Word and believe for a miracle. In Jesus' name, Amen.
