Hey there, weary-eyed wonder-worker. It’s early. Maybe the sun isn’t even fully up yet, or maybe the kids have already turned the living room into a Lego obstacle course. Whatever your morning looks like, we are so glad you’re here.
Welcome to the first part of our "Steady Hearts in a Busy World" series. Today, we’re talking about Finding the Still Point.
In physics, the still point is the center of a spinning object, the one spot that stays perfectly motionless while everything else whirls around it. As parents, our lives are definitely "spinning." Between school runs, work deadlines, and trying to remember if it’s "pajama day" or "picture day," the whirl is real.
But God invites us into a different kind of morning. Before you check your emails or start the first load of laundry, let's find that still point together.
Family Bible Study: The Secret of the Pause
Scripture: Psalm 46:10
"Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!"
The Heart of the Matter Think about a snow globe. If you shake it up, the glitter flies everywhere. You can’t see the little house or the trees inside because of all the swirling "stuff." To see the beauty inside, you have to set the globe down and wait.
Our hearts are a lot like those snow globes. Our worries, our "to-do" lists, and even our excitement can shake us up. When we are "shaken," it’s hard to see what God is doing. But when we are still, even for just sixty seconds, the glitter settles. We start to see that God is big, He is in control, and He is right here with us.
Discussion Questions for the Whole Fam:
For the Littles (Ages 3-6): Can you show me your "statue pose"? How does it feel to be super quiet and still for a moment?
For the Middles (Ages 7-9): When is it hardest for you to be still? Is it when you’re worried, or when you’re really excited?
For the Bigs (Ages 10-12): The verse says, "Be still and know." Why do you think it’s easier to "know" God is in charge when we aren't running around?
Morning Prayer: "Dear God, thank You for this new day. Before the noise starts and the day gets busy, we want to be still with You. Help us remember that You are bigger than any problem we face today. Keep our hearts steady in Your love. Amen."

Kids' Story: Toby and the Morning Meadow
Once upon a time, in a house that hummed with the sound of a whistling teakettle and a barking dog named Buttons, lived a boy named Toby.
Toby was a fast boy. He ran fast, he ate fast, and he talked very, very fast. Every morning, Toby would jump out of bed like a toaster pastry popping up. Boing! He would immediately start looking for his red cape or his dinosaur boots.
But one morning, Toby woke up and felt... heavy. He had a big math test that day, and his tummy felt like it had a thousand butterflies having a dance party inside. He didn't want to pop up. He wanted to hide under the covers.
Toby’s Dad came in and sat on the edge of the bed. He didn't tell Toby to hurry up. Instead, he whispered, "Hey, Toby. Want to go to the Morning Meadow?"
Toby looked around his room. "We don't have a meadow, Dad. We have a closet and a pile of laundry."
"The Morning Meadow is in your heart," Dad said with a smile. "Close your eyes. Imagine a place where the grass is soft and the wind is just a tiny tickle. No math tests. No noisy Buttons. Just you and God."
Toby closed his eyes. He took a deep breath. In through the nose, out through the mouth. He imagined sitting in the tall green grass. He imagined God sitting right next to him, not saying anything, just enjoying the sunshine.
For one whole minute, Toby didn't move. The butterflies in his tummy stopped dancing and went to sleep. The "heavy" feeling started to float away. When Toby opened his eyes, the room was still the same, but he felt different. He was ready.
"God is big, Toby," Dad said. "And He’s got the math test handled. He’s got you."
Toby put on his cape, but he didn't jump. He walked down the stairs, one steady step at a time, carrying the peace of the Morning Meadow with him.
The Lantern of Lumina: Chapter 1 – The Whispering Mist
The journey did not begin with a shout, but with a flicker.
Kael stood at the edge of the Great Pine Woods. Behind him lay the village of Oakhaven, still asleep under a blanket of blue morning mist. In his hand, he gripped the handle of a brass lantern. It was cold and dark.
"The light only comes to those who wait for it," his grandfather had told him. Kael wasn't very good at waiting. He wanted to run into the woods and find the Golden Path before the sun was high. He wanted to be the hero now.
But the woods were thick with the Whispering Mist. If he ran now, he would surely trip over a root or lose his way in the grey shadows. Kael sat down on a mossy stump. He closed his eyes and listened.
At first, all he heard was his own fast breathing. But then, he heard the drip-drop of dew falling from a leaf. He heard the distant whistle of a morning bird. And then, he felt it: a tiny spark of warmth in his hand.
He opened his eyes. The lantern wasn't burning with fire, but with a soft, steady glow that seemed to come from inside the metal itself. The light didn't show him the whole forest, but it showed him the very next step.
"One step at a time," Kael whispered. He stood up. The mist was still there, but the lantern held the "still point" of light. As long as he stayed near the light, the shadows couldn't touch him.

Parent Pro-Tip: The "First Five" Habit
Finding a "still point" as a parent feels nearly impossible. If you aren't being woken up by a human alarm clock jumping on your stomach, you're likely waking up to the mental sirens of your to-do list.
Here is a low-pressure way to reclaim your morning: The First Five.
Don't Touch the Phone: Try not to check your notifications for the first five minutes of your day. The world can wait.
Hydrate and Meditate: Grab your Stainless Steel Water Bottle and take a long drink. As you do, tell God, "I am here, and I know You are here."
The "Grounding" Prayer: While the coffee brews or the kids get dressed, pray this simple breath prayer: (Inhale) "Be still..." (Exhale) "...and know."
If you need a place to jot down what God is speaking to you in those quiet moments, our FA Memphis Spiral Notebook is the perfect companion for your bedside table.
Hands-On Faith: The Peace Stone Craft
This is a simple, no-cost activity to help kids remember to find their "still point" throughout the day.
Items Needed:
A smooth rock from the backyard.
Markers or paint.
Clear tape or nail polish (optional, for sealing).
The Activity:
Go for a short walk together to find the "perfect" rock.
While walking, look for things that are still (trees, large rocks) and things that are moving (birds, cars, wind).
Back at home, have your child paint a single dot or a small heart in the center of the rock. This represents the "Still Point": God’s presence in the middle of our busy lives.
The Spiritual Connection: Tell your child, "Whenever you feel 'shaken up' today, like a snow globe, reach into your pocket and touch your Peace Stone. Remember that God is the still point who never moves."
Parent Discussion Guide & Resources
Heart of the Story: This devotional is designed to move families from the "frantic morning" to the "focused morning." The goal isn't perfect silence: that’s impossible with kids!: but rather a redirected focus.
Theological Roots: This lesson aligns with the Assemblies of God truth regarding the Omnipresence and Sovereignty of God. We trust that because God is everywhere and in control, we do not have to live in a state of panic (Psalm 46).
Scripture Memory Card (Standard 8.5" x 11" printable layout):
Verse: "Be still, and know that I am God." : Psalm 46:10
Key Truth: God is my quiet place.
