Daily Parent Devotional: Leading Your Child to Jesus at Home (March 3)

Hey there, family. Welcome to today’s devotional. It is March 3, 2026, and if you are reading this while sipping a lukewarm cup of coffee or in the five minutes of quiet before the house wakes up, we are so glad you’re here.

As parents and guardians, we carry a lot of titles. We are chefs, chauffeurs, coaches, and sometimes even amateur doctors when a knee gets scraped. But there is one title that carries more weight and more eternal significance than all the others: we are the primary spiritual leaders of our homes.

That can feel a little intimidating, right? You might think, "I'm not a pastor," or "I don't have a theology degree." The good news is that you don’t need one. Leading your child to Jesus isn’t about having all the answers; it’s about pointing them to the One who does.

At Boundless Online Church, we believe that the home is the first "online campus" where faith is formed. Whether you are a shift worker, a stay-at-home parent, or someone who can’t make it to a physical building due to health or distance, your home is holy ground.

The Heart of the Matter: Authentic Faith

In the Gospel reading for today, Matthew 23:1-12, Jesus speaks to the crowds about the religious leaders of the day. He gives a stern warning that is actually a great lesson for us as parents. He tells the people to practice and observe what the leaders teach, but not to do what they do. Why? Because they weren't practicing what they preached. They were focused on the outward appearance of being holy while their hearts were far from God.

As we lead our children at home, authenticity is our greatest tool. Our kids have a built-in "radar" for when we are being real and when we are just going through the motions.

Leading your child to Jesus starts with you living a life that reflects Him. It’s not about being perfect: thankfully, because none of us are! It’s about being humble. It’s about showing them how we handle mistakes, how we ask for forgiveness, and how we rely on God’s grace every single day.

When your child sees you reading your Bible or hears you talking to God in a natural, casual way, they realize that faith isn't just something we do on Sundays. It’s the air we breathe.

Practical Ways to Disciple at Home

So, what does this look like on a Tuesday afternoon? How do we take these big spiritual truths and make them accessible for a toddler, a middle-schooler, or a teenager?

1. Create a Culture of Prayer Prayer doesn't always have to be formal. While bedtime prayers are a wonderful tradition, try "praying as you go." If you see an ambulance, pray for the person inside. If your child is worried about a test, stop right there and ask God for peace. By weaving prayer into the fabric of your daily life, you show your children that God is accessible and that He cares about the "small stuff."

2. Make the Word the Final Word In the Assemblies of God, we believe the Bible is our all-sufficient rule for faith and practice. When your child comes to you with a "why" question: why do we have to be kind to that person? why should I tell the truth?: try to point them back to Scripture. You don't have to be a Bible scholar. You can simply say, "Let's see what God says about that."

3. Model Humble Service Going back to Matthew 23, Jesus said the greatest among us shall be a servant. We can lead our children to Jesus by serving others together. Maybe that’s making a meal for a neighbor or cleaning up the park. When we serve, we are acting like Jesus. Explain to your kids why you are doing it: "We love because He first loved us."

Answering the "Tough" Questions

One of the biggest fears parents have is that their child will ask a question they can’t answer. "Why does God allow bad things to happen?" or "How did Jesus fit all the animals on the ark?"

Here is a secret: It is okay to say, "I don't know, but let's look for the answer together."

In fact, saying "I don't know" can actually strengthen your child's faith. It shows them that God is bigger than our understanding. It also gives you a chance to dive into resources together. You might check out our blog for articles on faith and technology, or explore a Bible study that deals with the foundations of the Word.

The Digital Frontier: Safety as Discipleship

We live in a world where our kids are "digital natives." They are growing up with screens in their hands and the entire world at their fingertips. Part of leading your child to Jesus at home involves protecting them in these digital spaces.

Think of digital safety as a modern-day "Great Commission" task. We want to teach our kids how to navigate the internet with wisdom and integrity. We've written about this in our guide on Digital Safety 101. When we set boundaries for what they watch or who they talk to online, we aren't just being "strict parents": we are guarding their hearts, just as the Bible instructs us to do.

A Prayer for You as a Parent

Before you move on with your day, let’s take a second to talk to the Father.

Lord, thank You for the gift of the children in my care. I know that I can't lead them to You on my own strength. I need Your Holy Spirit to guide me. Help me to be authentic. Help me to model Your love, Your grace, and Your truth in the middle of the laundry, the homework, and the busy schedules. Let our home be a place where Your presence is felt and where my children grow to know You as their Savior and Friend. Amen.

Next Steps for Your Family

If you’re looking for a community to grow with, we invite you to join us for our Sunday Live Worship. It’s a great way to experience church from wherever you are.

If you feel like you need a little extra support or just want to connect with other parents navigating the same joys and challenges, consider joining one of our groups. We are all in this together, and you don't have to do it alone.

Remember, you are doing a great job. God chose you to be the parent of your child for a reason. He will give you exactly what you need for today.

We help people meet Jesus and grow in faith online.
