Does God Still Perform Miracles Today? Understanding Divine Power

Yes, God absolutely still performs miracles today because His nature and power never change. While some believe these supernatural acts were reserved only for the early church, we see evidence of divine intervention all around us in healings, provisions, and transformed lives. Because Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever, we can trust that the Holy Spirit is still active and moving in our world right now.
Bible Verses to Carry With You
Hebrews 13:8 "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."
James 5:14-15 "Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up."
Acts 1:8 "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
Matthew 19:26 "Jesus looked at them and said, 'With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'"
Does the Power Still Flow?
When we look at the pages of the Bible, we see a God who parts seas, closes the mouths of lions, and raises the dead. It’s easy to read those stories and feel like they belong to a different world or a different age. You might find yourself asking, "Where is that God today?"
The truth is, God hasn’t retired. He hasn't lost His touch, and He certainly hasn't run out of power.
At Boundless Online Church, we believe that the same Holy Spirit who empowered the apostles in the book of Acts is available to believers today. This isn't just a nice sentiment; it’s a core part of our faith. We see miracles not just as historical events, but as present-day realities that point people toward the love and lordship of Jesus Christ.

Understanding the "Why" of Miracles
Why does God perform miracles? It’s rarely just for the sake of a spectacle. In the New Testament, miracles are often called "signs." A sign isn't the destination; it’s something that points you toward the destination.
Miracles point us to the fact that the Kingdom of God is near. They confirm that the Word of God is true. When someone is healed or a situation is supernaturally turned around, it serves as a powerful testimony to the skeptical world that Jesus is alive and well.
For those of us in the Assemblies of God tradition, we hold tightly to the 16 Fundamental Truths. One of those truths is Divine Healing. we believe that deliverance from sickness is provided for in the atonement and is the privilege of all believers. It’s a gift from a loving Father who cares about our physical bodies just as much as our spirits.
The Debate: Has the Supernatural Stopped?
In the wider Christian world, there is a theological disagreement. Some folks believe in "cessationism": the idea that miraculous gifts like healing and speaking in tongues ceased after the original apostles passed away. They argue that once we had the full Bible, we didn't need miracles to prove the message anymore.
However, many of us: including world-renowned theologians like Craig Keener: argue that the evidence for modern miracles is overwhelming. Keener suggests that often, our own expectations determine what we see. If we go into a situation assuming miracles are impossible, we will explain away even the most extraordinary events as mere coincidence.
But when you look at the documented cases of cancer disappearing, blind eyes opening, or even resuscitations from death that defy medical explanation, "coincidence" starts to feel like a very weak argument. There are stories of people in wheelchairs for decades walking again after prayer, and documented instances where organic diseases were cured instantly.

Miracles in the Every Day
While we love the "big" miracles, we shouldn't overlook the way God moves in the quiet moments of our lives.
Think about the shift worker who is exhausted and finds a sudden "second wind" to get home safely. Think about the parent who is down to their last dollar and receives an unexpected check in the mail. Think about the person struggling with addiction who finds the strength to walk away and stay clean.
Are these any less miraculous than a blind man seeing? They all involve the supernatural intervention of God in the natural world.
If you are a caregiver, a late-shift worker, or someone living in a place where it’s hard to get to a traditional church building, know this: God’s power isn't limited by your location or your schedule. You can experience His miraculous presence right where you are.
When the Miracle Doesn't Come (Yet)
One of the hardest things to navigate in faith is when we pray for a miracle and things don't change. We pray for the healing, but the illness remains. We pray for the restoration of a relationship, but it stays broken.
Does this mean God is gone? Does it mean you don't have enough faith?
Not at all. We have to remember that while God is powerful, He is also sovereign. He sees the whole map while we only see the next turn. Sometimes the "miracle" is the supernatural peace that surpasses all understanding, allowing us to endure a storm that should have broken us.
If you are waiting on a miracle, don't give up. Keep knocking. Keep seeking. But also, keep trusting in the character of the One who loves you. He is working, even when we can’t see the evidence yet.

How to Position Yourself for the Supernatural
If you are seeking a move of God in your life, here are a few practical steps to take:
Stay in the Word: Read the accounts of Jesus’ ministry. Remind your soul of what He is capable of.
Ask Boldly: James tells us we have not because we ask not. Don't be afraid to ask for the "impossible."
Gather With Others: There is power in corporate prayer. If you can’t get to a physical building, join us for our Sunday Sermons or visit our Prayer Wall to share your requests with our global community.
Listen to the Spirit: Sometimes God wants to perform a miracle through you. Be open to those nudges to pray for someone or to help someone in need.
We help people meet Jesus and grow in faith online. That growth often happens when we step out in faith and expect God to be exactly who He says He is.
A Community That Believes With You
You don't have to carry your burdens alone. Whether you are working the night shift in a hospital or sitting at home in a quiet house, the power of God is accessible to you. We are a global family, and we believe in the power of prayer.
If you have a story of a miracle, we want to hear it! Sharing what God has done encourages everyone else to keep believing. If you’re currently in the middle of a battle and need a breakthrough, let us stand with you.

A Prayer for Divine Intervention
Heavenly Father, we come before You today acknowledging that You are the Creator of the heavens and the earth. Nothing is too hard for You. We thank You that You are the same today as You were in the days of the Bible. Lord, for the person reading this who needs a miracle: whether it’s physical healing, financial provision, or a restored heart: we ask for Your supernatural power to move. Increase our faith and help us to trust in Your perfect timing. We thank You for Your love and Your presence that never leaves us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
