Seekers & New Believers
You can know you’re truly saved when you’ve repented and put your trust in Jesus Christ alone—by grace through faith—and the Holy Spirit gives you inner assurance while your life begins to change over time. You won’t be perfect, but you won’t be the same.
Why This Matters
If you’ve ever wondered whether your faith is “real enough,” or if you did it “the right way,” you’re not alone. I meet people with that same question all the time. God doesn’t want you stuck in fear—He wants you to have peace, confidence, and a real relationship with Him.
At FA Memphis and Boundless Online Church, we believe assurance of salvation isn’t arrogant—it’s biblical. And it’s something the Lord lovingly grows in you.
How Do I Know if I’m Truly Saved?
Here’s the foundation (and I want to say it plainly): we’re saved by grace through faith—not by working hard enough, not by being “good enough,” and not by having the perfect emotional moment.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith… not of works, lest anyone should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8–9, NKJV)
And the Bible gives a clear response to what saving faith looks like:
“If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9, NKJV)
In Assemblies of God language (Fundamental Truth #4), salvation comes through repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
That means I:
Turn to Jesus (faith)
Turn from sin (repentance)
Trust Him to save me (grace, not works)
When you do that sincerely, God forgives you, makes you new, and welcomes you into His family.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17, NKJV)

Three Anchors That Help You Know You’re Saved
I like to give people three “anchors” to hold onto when doubts hit. Not feelings. Not memories. Anchors.
1) The Promise of God’s Word
Your assurance starts with what God said, not what you feel today.
God promises salvation to those who repent and believe (Romans 10:9).
God says salvation is a gift of grace (Ephesians 2:8–9).
God tells believers they can know they have eternal life.
“These things I have written to you who believe… that you may know that you have eternal life.” (1 John 5:13, NKJV)
If you’ve trusted Jesus, your first “receipt” is Scripture.
2) The Witness of the Spirit (Pentecostal worldview)
As Pentecostals, we take Romans 8 seriously. The Holy Spirit doesn’t just change your status—He brings relationship. He gives a deep inner “yes” that you belong to God.
“The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.” (Romans 8:16, NKJV)
That witness may show up as peace, conviction, hunger for God, comfort, or a steady confidence that you’re His. It’s not always loud. It’s often gentle—but it’s real.
3) A Life That Starts Being Sanctified (evidence over time)
This matters: growth doesn’t save you, but growth does show something is alive.
Fundamental Truth #5 reminds us sanctification is an ongoing process—God setting us apart and shaping us to look like Jesus. You won’t be instantly flawless, but over time you’ll see signs like:
you hate sin differently (conviction instead of comfort)
you run back to Jesus when you mess up
you develop a hunger for God’s Word and prayer
your relationships start changing (love, forgiveness, humility)
you want community with believers

Clearing Up a Few Common Fears (No Shame—Just Truth)
“I don’t always feel saved.”
Feelings are real, but they’re not the foundation. You’re saved because Jesus is faithful and you trusted Him—not because you felt a certain rush.
“I sinned after I prayed… does that mean I’m not saved?”
Temptation and failure don’t automatically mean you were never saved. What matters is direction. When the Holy Spirit is in you, He draws you to repentance and restoration—not hiding and hopelessness.
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9, NKJV)
“I’m worried I didn’t pray the prayer right.”
Salvation isn’t a magic script. It’s real repentance and real faith. If your heart turned to Jesus, He heard you.
If You’re Still Not Sure, Here’s What I’d Do Next
If you’re unsure, don’t spiral—just come into the light. Ask yourself:
Am I trusting Jesus alone to save me?
Have I repented (turned around) and surrendered to Him?
Do I sense the Spirit working in me—even if imperfectly?
And you can pray honestly (not perfectly) right now:
“Jesus, I believe You are the Son of God. I believe You died for my sins and rose again. I repent and turn to You. Forgive me, make me new, and be Lord of my life. Fill me with Your Spirit and help me follow You. Amen.”
If you prayed that with sincerity, you don’t need to “earn” your way into God’s family. You’re receiving what Jesus already paid for.
