The Mission of the Church: More than a Building

The Church is Not a Building

If you look at the original language of the Bible, the word for church is ekklesia. It doesn’t mean a temple or a physical structure. It means "a called-out assembly."

Jesus didn't spend His time building cathedrals. He spent His time building people. He walked on dusty roads. He sat at dinner tables. He met people right where they were.

1. Reaching the World

The first part of our mission is simple: share the Good News. Jesus told His followers to go into all the world and preach the gospel.

This isn't just for "professional" missionaries. It is for all of us.

In a digital age, "all the world" includes the internet. It includes the person looking for hope at 3:00 AM because they can't sleep. It includes the person who feels too broken to walk into a physical building.

2. A Place to Worship

The church is also a corporate body where we worship God together. Worship isn't just about singing songs. It is about giving God the honor He deserves.

When we gather: even virtually: we are declaring that God is at the center of our lives. We gather to be in His presence. We gather to remind ourselves that we are not the ones in control.

Worship changes our perspective. It takes our eyes off our problems and puts them on the One who has the solutions.

3. Building Each Other Up
