Pain is a universal language. Whether it is a dull ache that won't go away, a sudden diagnosis that changes everything, or the exhaustion of caring for someone who is suffering, we all understand the weight of physical and emotional brokenness.
At Boundless Online Church, we believe that God is not distant from your pain. He isn't looking down from a high balcony, indifferent to the struggle. He is right there in the room with you, in the hospital ward, the late-night nursery, or the quiet bedroom where you’re trying to find the strength to get through another hour.
Today, as part of our Global Micro-Study, we are diving into one of the most powerful and hopeful pillars of our faith: Divine Healing. This is Truth #12 of the 16 Fundamental Truths of the Assemblies of God.
It isn't just a theological idea. It is a promise that touches our skin, our bones, and our very breath.
More Than a "Maybe"
When we talk about divine healing, we aren't talking about a "maybe" or a "sometimes." We are talking about an integral part of the Gospel.
In the Assemblies of God tradition, we believe that deliverance from sickness is provided for in the atonement and is the privilege of all believers. This means that when Jesus went to the cross, He didn't just deal with our "spiritual" problems. He dealt with the whole person.
Sin brought brokenness into the world, and that brokenness manifests in our bodies as well as our souls. When Jesus died and rose again, He began the process of making all things new. Healing is a "foretaste" of the complete restoration that is coming when God wipes away every tear and removes all pain forever.
But here is the good news: you don’t have to wait until heaven to experience God’s touch. He is the Great Physician right now.

The Biblical Foundation: Why We Believe
Our belief in divine healing isn't based on wishful thinking; it’s grounded in the Word of God.
If you look at the prophet Isaiah, writing hundreds of years before Jesus was born, he describes the Messiah in a very specific way:
"Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering... and by his wounds we are healed." (Isaiah 53:4-5)
When Matthew wrote his Gospel, he specifically pointed back to these verses. After Jesus spent an evening healing the sick and driving out spirits, Matthew noted that this was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah.
Jesus’ ministry was characterized by compassion. He didn't just preach sermons; He touched lepers. He didn't just teach in parables; He opened blind eyes. He didn't just talk about the Kingdom of God; He demonstrated it by making the lame walk.
If you are a caregiver sitting by a bed tonight, or if you are the one struggling with a disability that makes everyday tasks feel like a mountain, know this: Jesus is still the same today as He was then. His heart breaks for what breaks yours.
For the Weary Caregiver and the Shift Worker
We know that many of you reading this are checking your phones during a 15-minute break on a night shift or sitting in a dimly lit room while a loved one sleeps. You are tired. You might feel like your prayers for healing have gone unanswered for a long time.
Divine healing isn't a formula. It isn't a vending machine where you put in "X" amount of faith and get out "Y" result. It is a relationship with a loving Father.
Sometimes healing is instantaneous, a miracle that defies medical explanation. Other times, it is a process that works alongside the wisdom of doctors and medicine. And sometimes, God provides the "healing of the heart", the supernatural strength to endure and find joy even in the midst of physical limitations.
If you are a caregiver, we see you. Your work is a ministry of mercy. When you pray for the person you love, you are standing in the gap. You are an extension of God’s healing hands.

How to Pray for Healing
You don't need fancy words or a degree in theology to ask God for a miracle. He hears the whispers just as clearly as the shouts. Here is how we approach the throne of grace when it comes to sickness:
Ask with Confidence: James 5 tells us to call for the elders of the church to pray over the sick and anoint them with oil. Why? Because the prayer of faith has power. Come to God with the confidence that He is a healer.
Surrender the Outcome: While we ask for physical restoration, we also surrender to His perfect will. This isn't a lack of faith; it is the ultimate expression of trust. We trust that He knows what we need even more than we do.
Keep Seeking: Don't stop asking. Keep bringing your requests to Him. There is no such thing as "bothering" God.

Living in the "Already, But Not Yet"
One of the hardest things about divine healing is the "not yet." We see many people healed, but we also see many who continue to suffer.
Does this mean Truth #12 isn't true? Absolutely not.
It means we live in a tension. We live in a world where the Kingdom of God has arrived through Jesus, but it hasn't yet been fully realized in every corner of the earth. We pray for healing because Jesus told us to pray, "Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven." In heaven, there is no sickness. So, when we pray for healing here, we are asking for a bit of heaven to show up on earth.
If you are living with a permanent disability, please hear this: You are not "less than" in God’s eyes. Your value is not tied to your physical ability. God uses every person, every story, and every body for His glory. Sometimes, His strength is made most perfect in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).
A Challenge for Today
Take a moment today to reflect on where you need God's healing touch. It might be your body, but it might also be your mind or your spirit.
Are you carrying a "sickness" of the soul, like bitterness or anxiety?
Are you physically exhausted from your job or your caregiving duties?
Do you have a specific physical ailment that has been weighing you down?
Bring it to Him. Open your hands and simply say, "Lord, I believe You are the Healer. I ask for Your touch today."

Final Thoughts
Divine healing is a gift. It is a reminder that God cares about the "here and now," not just the "hereafter." He created your body, He sustained your life, and He is invested in your recovery.
Whether you experience a sudden miracle today or find the grace to walk through a long journey of recovery, know that the Great Physician is walking right beside you.
