Boundless Daily Micro-Study: Finding Strength in the Shadows

Welcome to your Boundless Daily Micro-Study.

Whether you are clocking out of a graveyard shift, sitting in a quiet hospital room, or reading this from a place where you must keep your faith a secret, we are glad you are here.

We help people meet Jesus and grow in faith online.

Today, we are talking about shadows.

Shadows are a part of life. They appear in the hospital hallways, the quiet corners of a bedroom, and the dark streets of the city at 3:00 AM.

Often, we view shadows as places of fear. But in the Kingdom of God, shadows serve a different purpose.

Let’s look at how we find strength when the world feels dark.

The Reality of the Shadow

For the shift worker, the shadow is the biological clock fighting against the sun.

For the caregiver, the shadow is the exhaustion that settles in when the rest of the world is asleep.

For the disabled individual, the shadow might be a physical limitation that feels like a constant weight.

And for our brothers and sisters in persecuted regions, the shadow is the literal cover they use to gather in whispers.

In Psalm 23, we hear about the "valley of the shadow of death."

Notice it doesn’t say the "valley of death," but the shadow of it.

A shadow can look intimidating. It can stretch across the floor and look like a giant. But a shadow has no substance. It cannot pull you down unless you let the fear of it paralyze you.

The Law of Light

There is a simple rule of physics that also applies to our spiritual lives:

You cannot have a shadow without a light.

If you are standing in a shadow, it is proof that there is a light source nearby.

The enemy wants you to focus on the darkness of the shadow. God wants you to turn your head and see the Light that is causing it.

Jesus said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life" (John 8:12).

This is one of our fundamental beliefs. We believe that Jesus is the Son of God and the only way to find true life. When you accept Him, you carry that light inside you, even into the darkest shift or the most difficult day.

Strength for the Weary Worker

Are you working while others sleep?

The 2:00 AM hour can be lonely. It’s easy to feel forgotten by society.

But God does not sleep.

He is the same God at noon as He is at midnight.

In the Assemblies of God, we believe in the power of the Holy Spirit. One of the roles of the Holy Spirit is to be our Comforter and Helper.

When your physical strength is gone, you can tap into a spiritual strength.

It is not about "powering through" on your own. It is about saying, "Holy Spirit, I am tired. Please give me Your strength for this next hour."

Strength for the Caregiver and the Disabled

If you are caring for someone who is ill, or if you are managing a disability yourself, the shadows can feel like they are closing in.

You might feel isolated or invisible.

We believe in Divine Healing. This is one of our 16 Fundamental Truths. We believe that God still heals today.

But we also believe that His presence is a healing balm even in the middle of the struggle.

Strength in the shadows means knowing that your value is not tied to your productivity.

You are loved because you are a child of God.

Even if you are confined to a bed or a chair, your spirit is boundless.

You can reach the throne of God from anywhere.

Strength for the Persecuted

In many parts of the world, following Jesus is dangerous.

If that is you, please know that the global Church is praying for you.

The shadows are your protection, but they are also where God does some of His greatest work.

The early church often met in secret. They found strength in the "shadows" of the catacombs and private homes.

Your faith is not measured by the size of the building you sit in. It is measured by the loyalty of your heart to King Jesus.

We believe that Jesus is coming again. We call this the Blessed Hope.

One day, there will be no more shadows. There will be no more need to hide. Every tear will be wiped away.

Until then, He is with you in the secret places.

How to Find This Strength Today

Finding strength isn't about a magic formula. It’s about a relationship.

Here is how you can start finding light in your shadows today:

1. Acknowledge the Light. Stop looking at the problem for a moment. Look up. Remind yourself that Jesus is the Light.

2. Speak the Truth. The shadows hate the truth. Speak the promises of God out loud. Even if it's a whisper. "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want."

3. Lean on the Community. You aren't meant to do this alone. Even if you can't get to a physical building, you are part of a global family. You can join conversations with others in our Bible Study Club or the FA Memphis Sermon & Prayer Chat.

4. Ask for the Spirit's Help. The Holy Spirit is available to every believer. Ask for a fresh filling of His power right now.

The Most Important Step: Meeting Jesus

The greatest strength you will ever find is the strength of a clean heart and a restored relationship with God.

We believe that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

But God loved the world so much that He sent Jesus to pay the price for our sins.

When Jesus died on the cross and rose again, He defeated the ultimate shadow: death itself.

If you don't know Him, you can meet Him right now.

It doesn't matter what you've done or where you are.

You can pray a simple prayer like this: "Lord Jesus, I need Your light. I admit that I have sinned. I believe You died for me and rose again. Please forgive me. Come into my life and give me Your strength. Amen."

If you prayed that, or if you want to know more about what it means to follow Jesus, we want to help you take your next steps.
