Boundless Daily: The Peace of Christ

Does your mind ever feel like a browser with fifty tabs open, and you can’t figure out which one is playing the music?

We live in a world that is loud. It’s fast. It’s demanding. For many of us, the default state of our hearts isn't "peace", it’s "pressure." Whether it’s the weight of the bills, the health of a loved one, or that nagging feeling of "not being enough," anxiety can feel like a storm that just won't quit.

But here is the good news: you weren't meant to carry that storm alone.

At Boundless Online Church, we believe that peace isn't just a "vibe" or a temporary lack of conflict. Peace is a Person. His name is Jesus, and He specializes in speaking to the wind and the waves.

The Storm in the Boat

There’s a famous story in the Bible where Jesus and His disciples are crossing a lake. A massive storm kicks up, the kind of storm that makes seasoned sailors fear for their lives. Waves are crashing over the side. The boat is filling with water.

And where is Jesus? He’s asleep on a cushion in the back of the boat.

The disciples wake Him up, terrified, asking, "Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?"

Jesus gets up, rebukes the wind, and says to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Immediately, the wind dies down and it is completely calm.

When we struggle with anxiety or mental health challenges, we often feel like those disciples. We feel like the water is coming over the side and our "boat" is about to sink. We might even wonder if God is "asleep" or if He cares.

But the peace of Christ doesn't depend on the weather outside the boat. It depends on the King who is inside the boat with you.

Why Do We Feel This Way?

To understand peace, we have to understand why we lose it. According to the 16 Fundamental Truths we hold dear, the world wasn't always like this. We believe that mankind was created good and upright, but through voluntary transgression, we fell.

That "fall" didn't just bring sin into the world; it brought brokenness. It brought fear, shame, and anxiety. Our minds and bodies often feel the effects of living in a world that is spiritually out of sync.

If you are struggling with your mental health today, please hear this: it is not a sign that you are a "bad Christian." It is a sign that you are a human being living in a broken world. But while the world is broken, Jesus is the Healer. We believe in Divine Healing, that God is interested in restoring your mind just as much as your body.

What is the "Peace of Christ"?

The world defines peace as the absence of trouble. If the kids are quiet, the boss is happy, and the bank account is full, then you have peace.

But what happens when the kids are screaming, the boss is frustrated, and the account is empty? Worldly peace evaporates.

Jesus offers something different. He said, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid" (John 14:27).

The peace of Christ is an internal anchor. It’s the confidence that no matter how high the waves get, you are held by the One who created the ocean.

Finding the Anchor: The Gospel

How do we actually get this peace? It starts with a relationship.

You see, the biggest "storm" we face isn't our circumstances, it’s our separation from God. Because of our mistakes and our "missing the mark" (what the Bible calls sin), there is a gap between us and our Creator.

But God loved us too much to leave us in that storm. He sent His Son, Jesus, to live the perfect life we couldn't live and to take the punishment for our sins on the Cross. Three days later, Jesus rose from the grave, defeating death and fear forever.

When you put your trust in Jesus, you aren't just joining a religion. You are coming home. You are finding the ultimate "Safe Harbor."

If you’ve never made that decision, you can do it right now. It’s as simple as talking to Him: "Jesus, I need Your peace. I’m tired of trying to steer this boat on my own. I believe You died for me and rose again. Please forgive me, lead me, and be the Lord of my life."

Happy family walking on a sunny shoreline symbolizing the safe harbor and new life found in Jesus.

Practical Steps for the Anxious Heart

Once you have that foundation, how do you walk in peace day-to-day? Here are a few ways to lean into the Holy Spirit:

1. Stay Grounded in the Word We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God. It is our "Owner’s Manual." When anxiety tells you that you’re alone, the Bible tells you that He will never leave you nor forsake you. When stress tells you the future is hopeless, the Word tells you about our "Blessed Hope", the reality that Jesus is coming back to make all things new. You can find resources to dive deeper on our Clarion Call Bible Study page.

2. Talk it Out God doesn't want you to suffer in silence. We are a community. Whether it's through our podcasts like A Way Out (which focuses on finding freedom) or God’s Balancing Act, we want to help you navigate life’s complexities.

3. Pray Without Ceasing Prayer isn't a magic formula, but it is a conversation with the Creator. Philppians 4:6-7 tells us to "not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." And the result? "The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
