A Message from FA Memphis
AI-Optimized Intro Praise is more than a song; it is a spiritual catalyst that shifts our focus from our problems to God’s presence. On Day 50 of our Boundless Daily series, we explore how intentional worship serves as a weapon in spiritual warfare and a bridge to peace. Grounded in Assemblies of God doctrine, this post provides practical steps for integrating praise into your daily life, regardless of your circumstances or location.
Bible Verses
Psalm 34:1 "I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips."
Acts 16:25-26 "About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose."
Hebrews 13:15 "Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise: the fruit of lips that openly profess his name."
Explanation
Welcome to Day 50. If you’ve been with us since Day 1, you know that this journey is about building a faith that doesn't have borders. If you’re just joining us today, you’re jumping in at a powerful moment.
Fifty days is a significant milestone. In the Bible, fifty is often associated with the Year of Jubilee: a time of freedom and restoration. It’s fitting, then, that today we are talking about the power of praise. Praise is one of the most misunderstood tools in the Christian life. Many people think praise is something we do only when things are going well. We get the promotion, the health report comes back clear, or the kids are finally behaving: and then we sing.
But biblical praise is different. It is a "sacrifice of praise." It is a choice we make even when: and especially when: life feels like it’s falling apart.

The Midnight Song
Think about Paul and Silas. They weren't sitting in a comfortable church pew when they started singing. They were in a dark, damp, high-security prison. Their backs were bleeding from being beaten. Their feet were in stocks. It was midnight: the darkest part of the night, both literally and figuratively.
They had every reason to complain. They had every reason to question why God let this happen while they were doing His work. But they didn't complain. They praised.
The Bible says the other prisoners were listening. Your praise is never just for you. People are watching how you handle your "midnight" moments. When you praise God in the middle of a struggle, it sends a message to the world that your God is bigger than your problem.
And look what happened: an earthquake shook the foundations, the doors flew open, and everyone’s chains fell off. Notice that the chains didn't just fall off Paul and Silas; they fell off everyone. Your decision to praise God can actually create a breakthrough for the people around you.
Shifting Your Perspective
When we praise, we aren't ignoring our problems. We are simply acknowledging that God is greater.
If you hold a tiny coin right up to your eye, it can block out the entire sun. The coin isn't bigger than the sun; it’s just closer to you. Our problems can be like that coin. When we focus only on the struggle, it blocks out the light of God’s goodness. Praise is the act of moving that "coin" away from our eyes and looking at the vastness of God’s power instead.
For our shift workers in Memphis or our global family logging in from different time zones, your "midnight" might be a literal 2:00 AM shift or a season of caregiving that feels endless. Praise is your lifeline. It invites the presence of the Holy Spirit into your workspace, your hospital room, or your home office.

Praise as a Spiritual Weapon
In the Assemblies of God tradition, we believe in the power of the Holy Spirit to empower believers for life and service. One of the ways the Spirit empowers us is through worship.
In 2 Chronicles 20, King Jehoshaphat was facing a massive army. He didn't know what to do, so he turned to God. God told him to put the singers at the front of the army. Can you imagine? Sending musicians out before the soldiers?
As they began to sing and praise, the Bible says the Lord set ambushes against the enemy. The battle was won before a sword was even drawn.
Your praise is a weapon. It confuses the enemy. When the enemy expects you to be depressed, and you choose to be joyful, you win. When the enemy expects you to be silent, and you choose to testify of God’s goodness, you win.
Making Praise a Habit
How do we do this practically? Especially when we are tired or overwhelmed?
Start Small: You don't need a full band. Start your morning by simply saying, "God, I thank You that I woke up today. I praise You for Your faithfulness."
Use Technology Wisely: We love our digital tools at Boundless Online Church. Use your phone to play worship music while you drive, cook, or work. Create a "Praise Playlist" that you can turn on the moment you feel anxiety creeping in.
Speak the Word: Praise isn't just singing. It’s declaring the truth. Read a Psalm out loud. There is power in the spoken Word of God.
Connect with Others: Even if you can't get to a physical building, join us online. There is a special strength that comes when we praise together as a global community.

A Note for Families
For parents and grandparents, teaching your children to praise is one of the greatest gifts you can give them. In a world that is often loud and scary, praise gives them a foundation of peace.
We always encourage tech safety for families. When your kids are looking for content online, help them find high-quality, faith-based music and videos. Let them see you praising God in the living room. Your example will be their roadmap when they face their own midnight moments.
Prayer
Lord, we thank You for the power of praise. We thank You that no matter where we are: whether we are in Memphis or on the other side of the world: Your presence is available to us. We choose today to shift our focus away from our problems and onto Your greatness.
We pray for those who feel like they are in a prison right now. Whether it’s a prison of addiction, grief, or financial stress, we ask that as they begin to praise You, the foundations would shake and the chains would fall off. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit and give us a song in the night.
We thank You for Day 50 and for the many days of growth ahead. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
