Boundless Daily: The Strength to Stand

It is 3:00 AM.

The halls of the hospital are quiet, save for the hum of the vending machine and the distant beep of a monitor. You are on your tenth hour of a twelve-hour shift. Your back aches, your mind is foggy, and the weight of responsibility feels heavier than the lead apron in the X-ray room.

Or maybe you are sitting in a darkened living room, listening to the labored breathing of a loved one you’ve been caring for around the clock. Your own needs have been pushed to the back burner for so long you can’t remember what "rest" feels like.

Perhaps you are in a part of the world where opening this blog post is a risk. You have to keep your faith hidden because standing for Jesus could cost you your freedom: or your life.

Wherever you are, and whatever trial you are facing, there is a question that echoes in the quiet moments: How do I find the strength to stand?

Not just to survive, but to stand with joy?

The Mystery of Joy in the Middle of a Mess

In our natural strength, joy and trials don't usually hang out together. When life gets hard, our natural response is to grit our teeth, complain, or eventually crumble. We think of joy as something that happens after the trial is over: when the bills are paid, the healing is complete, or the shift finally ends.

But the Bible presents a different kind of strength. It’s a strength that doesn’t come from our own willpower. It’s a supernatural endurance.

At Boundless Online Church, we believe in the "Blessed Hope": the certainty that Jesus is coming again and that this world isn't all there is. That hope is an anchor. But we also need something for the "right now." We need the power of the Holy Spirit to help us stand today.

Understanding the Source

The Assemblies of God 16 Fundamental Truths remind us that the Holy Spirit is our Comforter and our Helper. When we talk about "The Strength to Stand," we aren't talking about "pulling ourselves up by our bootstraps."

We are talking about a God who meets us in the middle of the night shift.

Think about the Apostle Paul. He wrote some of his most joyful letters while chained to a Roman guard. He wasn't happy about the chains, but he was filled with joy because of his connection to Christ.

He understood that his strength wasn't tied to his circumstances. His strength was tied to a Person.

For the Weary and the Overlooked

If you are a caregiver, a shift worker, or someone living with a disability, you might feel like your struggle is "invisible." You aren't on a stage; you’re in a kitchen, a warehouse, or a hospital room.

We want you to know that God sees the invisible hours. He sees the patience you show when you are exhausted. He sees the way you keep going when your body wants to quit.

The strength to stand comes when we stop trying to carry the whole world on our shoulders and realize that Jesus is already carrying us. He says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28).

That rest isn't just a nap (though we all need those!). It’s a soul-rest. It’s the confidence that even if you fail, God’s grace is enough.

The Good News: Why We Can Stand

You might be wondering, How can I have this connection to God? How do I get this strength?

It starts with the Gospel: the Good News.

The reality is that we have all fallen short. We’ve all tried to run our lives our own way, and that separation from God is what we call sin. But God loved us too much to leave us in that state. He sent His Son, Jesus, to live a perfect life and die on a cross to pay the price for our mistakes.

Three days later, He rose from the dead. He conquered death so that we could have life: not just a "better" life, but a new life.

When you put your trust in Jesus, you aren't just joining a religion. You are entering into a relationship with the Creator of the Universe. He gives you His Spirit to live inside you. That is where the strength to stand comes from. It’s His life flowing through yours.

If you’ve never made that decision to follow Him, you can do it right now. You don't need fancy words. Just talk to Him. Tell Him you need Him. Ask Him to forgive you and to be the Lord of your life.

Standing Under Pressure

For our brothers and sisters in persecuted areas, "standing" looks different. It might mean a quiet prayer in a basement or sharing a Bible verse in a whisper.

We believe in the "Blessed Hope": the return of our Lord. This truth gives us a perspective that stretches beyond our current pain. If you are being pressured to give up your faith, remember that you are part of a global family. You are not standing alone.

The same Spirit that empowered the early church to stand against empires is the same Spirit available to you today. We pray for your protection and for a "peace that passes all understanding" to guard your hearts and minds.

Practical Steps to Find Strength Today

How do we actually tap into this strength when we’re exhausted?

1. Lean on the Word The Bible isn't just a history book; it’s "inspired by God" and useful for teaching and encouragement. Even if you only have time for one verse on your break, let it sink in. Check out our Clarion Call Bible Study for ways to dive deeper into the Word.

2. Talk to Him Prayer doesn't have to be formal. Talk to God while you’re driving, while you’re cleaning, or while you’re waiting for the next task. He is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

3. Stay Connected Isolation is the enemy of endurance. Even if you can’t get to a physical building, you are part of the Church. Listen to a podcast while you work, like the God’s Balancing Act Podcast, to stay encouraged.

4. Ask for Prayer There is power when we pray for one another. You don’t have to carry your trials in silence. We are here to stand with you.
