Micro-Study : The Authority of God's Word Day 35

A Message from FA Memphis

Welcome to Day 35 of our Boundless Daily Micro-Studies. If you’ve been with us since Day 1, you know we’ve been digging deep into what it means to live a life fueled by faith in a world that often feels like it's spinning out of control. If you’re just joining us today: maybe you’re on a break during a long night shift, or you’re a caregiver finding a quiet moment of peace: we are so glad you’re here.

Today, we are tackling a big one: The Authority of God’s Word.

In a world where everyone has an opinion and "truth" seems to change with the latest social media trend, where do we plant our feet? For those of us following Jesus, the answer is found in the Bible. But it’s not just a book of good advice or ancient history. It’s the final word.

The Foundation of Truth

When we talk about "authority," it can sometimes feel a bit heavy or even restrictive. We live in a culture that values independence and "living your own truth." But real authority isn't about control; it’s about foundation.

Think about a lighthouse. Its authority doesn't come from being loud or bossy. Its authority comes from the fact that it is built on a rock and emits a light that is true, consistent, and life-saving. That is exactly what God’s Word is for us.

At Boundless Online Church, we align with the Assemblies of God doctrine, which teaches that the Scriptures: both the Old and New Testaments: are verbally inspired by God. This is the revelation of God to man, the infallible, authoritative rule of faith and conduct.

In simple terms: God said it, it’s true, and we can build our lives on it.

What Does "God-Breathed" Mean?

One of the most famous verses regarding the Bible is 2 Timothy 3:16. It says, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness."

That term "God-breathed" is fascinating. It suggests that the words of the Bible aren't just the clever thoughts of men who lived thousands of years ago. Instead, the Holy Spirit moved through those writers to record exactly what God wanted to say to us. Because God is the source, the Word carries His weight, His power, and His character.

Because the Bible is God-breathed, it is:

  • Dependable: It doesn't fail when things get tough.

  • Sufficient: It has everything we need to grow in our relationship with Him.

  • Unchanging: It’s as relevant for someone in a high-tech city today as it was for a fisherman in Galilee.

When you read the Bible, you aren't just reading text; you are engaging with the living God. This is why we encourage everyone in our Clarion Call Bible Study to approach the Word with expectation.

The Authority Demonstrated by Jesus

If you want to see what the authority of the Word looks like in action, look at Jesus. Throughout the Gospels, people were constantly "astonished" by His teaching. Why? Because He didn't teach like the other religious leaders of His day. He taught as one who had authority.

One of the coolest examples of this is the story of the Roman Centurion. This was a man who understood how authority worked. He told Jesus, "Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed."

The Centurion recognized that Jesus didn't need to be physically present to perform a miracle. He knew that the word of Jesus carried the full weight of God’s power. Jesus marveled at this man's faith.

Do we have that same confidence? Do we believe that when God speaks a promise over our lives through His Word, it is already as good as done? Whether you are watching our Sunday Sermons or reading privately at 3:00 AM, that power is available to you.

Authority vs. Opinion

We live in the "Information Age," but sometimes it feels more like the "Opinion Age." Everyone has a platform, and everyone has a perspective. If we try to navigate our lives based on the shifting sands of public opinion, we’re going to get exhausted.

The authority of God's Word provides a "north star."

  • When the world says, "Look out for yourself first," the Word says, "Love your neighbor as yourself."

  • When the world says, "You are what you earn," the Word says, "You are a child of God, bought with a price."

  • When the world says, "There is no hope," the Word says, "I have overcome the world."

The authority of the Bible isn't there to keep us from having fun; it’s there to keep us from getting lost. It’s the guardrail on a dangerous mountain road. It keeps us on the path that leads to life.

Practical Ways to Submit to the Word

It’s one thing to say we believe the Bible is authoritative; it’s another thing to actually live like it. Submission to God’s Word is a daily choice. Here are a few ways to practically let the Word have the final say in your life:

  1. Read it with the intent to obey. Don't just read for information; read for transformation. Ask the Holy Spirit, "What are You telling me to do today through this verse?"

  2. Filter your feelings through the Truth. Our emotions are real, but they aren't always right. When you feel anxious or discarded, find a promise in Scripture that addresses that feeling and let the Scripture be the louder voice.

  3. Prioritize it. In our busy lives, the Bible often gets the "leftover" time. What if it was the first thing? Even if it's just a "micro-study" like this one, giving God the first word of your day changes your perspective.

  4. Stay connected. Faith isn't a solo sport. Join a community where the Word is preached and celebrated. You can explore our media library for resources that help you dive deeper.

A Truth for the Global Family

At Boundless Online Church, our heart is for the global audience. We know that many of you are in places where you might not have access to a physical church building. Some of you are in areas where owning a Bible is a risk. Others are simply isolated by life circumstances: disability, work schedules, or caregiving responsibilities.

The beauty of the authority of God's Word is that it isn't bound by geography. The same Holy Spirit that inspired the writers of the Bible is with you right now, wherever you are. The authority of God's Word is your inheritance as a believer. It is your shield, your map, and your comfort.

As we wrap up Day 35, take a moment to reflect. Is there an area of your life where you've been leaning on your own understanding instead of God's Word? Is there a situation where you need to hear a "final word" from the Father?

He is speaking. His Word is settled. And His promises are for you.

Let’s Pray Together

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word. Thank You that You didn't leave us to wander in the dark, but You gave us a lamp for our feet and a light for our path. We acknowledge today that Your Word is the final authority in our lives. Help us to trust it more than we trust our feelings or the opinions of the world. Speak to us clearly today and give us the courage to follow where You lead. Amen.
