The Boundless Daily: Day 2 – The One True God

Welcome back to Day 2.

Maybe you're reading this on a break at work. Maybe you're scrolling at 2 a.m. because sleep won't come. Maybe you're just curious about what Christians really believe.

Wherever you are, you're welcome here.

Today we're talking about something foundational: the one true God.

This is the second of the Assemblies of God's 16 Fundamental Truths. And before your eyes glaze over at the word "fundamental," stick with me. This isn't about stuffy theology. It's about who God actually is, and why it matters to your everyday life.

So... One True God?

Let's start here: Christians believe there is one God.

Not many gods. Not a force. Not a vague cosmic energy.

One God. Personal. Real. Active.

The Bible is clear from the very beginning. Deuteronomy 6:4 says, "Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one."

This was radical when it was written. The ancient world was full of competing gods, gods of war, fertility, weather, you name it. People hedged their bets, worshiping multiple deities just to cover all the bases.

But God said, "No. I am the Lord. There is no other."

This isn't about being narrow-minded or exclusive. It's about truth.

If God is real, and we believe He is, then there's only one reality. One ultimate truth. One source of all life, love, and purpose.

That's Him.

Three in One: The Trinity

Now here's where it gets interesting.

Christians believe in one God who exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

This is called the Trinity.

And yes, it's a little mind-bending. That's okay. We're talking about the infinite Creator of the universe. If we could fully wrap our heads around Him, He wouldn't be much of a God, would He?

Think of it this way:

  • God the Father is the Creator, the source of all things.

  • God the Son (Jesus) is the Word made flesh, who lived among us, died for us, and rose again.

  • God the Holy Spirit is the present, active power of God living in and through believers today.

They are not three separate gods. They are one God in three persons, distinct, yet inseparable. Equal in power, glory, and nature.

The early church wrestled with this. They didn't invent the Trinity to make things complicated. They discovered it because that's how God revealed Himself in Scripture.

At Jesus' baptism, you see all three: the Son in the water, the Spirit descending like a dove, and the Father's voice from heaven saying, "This is my Son, whom I love" (Matthew 3:16-17).

One God. Three persons. Fully present. Fully active.

Why Does This Matter?

You might be thinking, "Okay, cool theology. But what does this have to do with my life?"

Fair question.

Here's why it matters:

Because the one true God is the God who loves you.

Not a distant, impersonal force. Not a cosmic judge waiting to smack you down. Not a silent deity who started the world and then checked out.

The God of the Bible is personal. He speaks. He acts. He cares.

The Father created you with purpose and intention. You're not an accident. You're not a random collection of atoms. You were made in His image, with dignity and worth.

The Son died for you. Jesus didn't stay in heaven. He came down, entered our mess, took on human flesh, and gave His life so you could be forgiven and made new.

The Spirit lives in you (if you've said yes to Jesus). He's not a feeling or a good vibe. He's God Himself, dwelling in you, empowering you, guiding you, comforting you.

That's not abstract theology. That's personal.

The God Who Hears

Here's what this means for shift workers, caregivers, night owls, and anyone reading this in the middle of a tough season:

God is with you right now.

When you're exhausted on the third night shift in a row: He's there.

When you're caring for a sick loved one at 4 a.m.: He's there.

When you're lying awake with anxiety, wondering how you'll make it through the week: He's there.

The one true God isn't limited by time zones or work schedules. He doesn't take breaks. He doesn't sleep.

Psalm 121:4 says, "He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep."

That's the God we serve.

You can talk to Him anytime. Anywhere. No appointment needed. No religious jargon required.

Just come as you are.

What About Other Beliefs?

Some people ask, "What about other religions? Don't they worship the same God?"

It's a fair question, and it deserves a thoughtful answer.

Christianity, Judaism, and Islam all claim to be monotheistic. But the details matter.

Christians believe that Jesus is God in the flesh. That's central to our faith. Jesus said, "I and the Father are one" (John 10:30). He claimed to be God. He accepted worship. He forgave sins: something only God can do.

Judaism rejects Jesus as the Messiah. Islam considers Him a prophet, but not divine.

These aren't minor differences. They're foundational.

Three paths converging into one radiant light representing the journey to the one true God

We're not saying other faiths don't have sincere, thoughtful people. They absolutely do. But sincerity doesn't change reality.

Christianity is unique because of Jesus. He's not just a teacher or a good example. He's the living God who stepped into history, proved His identity through miracles and His resurrection, and opened the way for us to know God personally.

Jesus said, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6).

That's not arrogance. That's truth spoken in love.

A God You Can Know

Here's the best part: this one true God wants to be known.

He's not hiding. He's not playing hard to get. He's been revealing Himself throughout history: through creation, through Scripture, through Jesus, through the lives of His people.

And He's revealing Himself today.

If you're curious about God, that curiosity didn't come from nowhere. The Bible says He's the one drawing you (John 6:44). He's the one knocking on the door of your heart (Revelation 3:20).

You don't have to have it all figured out. You don't have to clean yourself up first. You don't have to earn your way in.

Just come.
