The Boundless Daily: Day 7 - Growing One Step at a Time

Welcome to Day 7 of The Boundless Daily.

We've covered a lot of ground together, salvation, baptism, communion, the return of Jesus. Big, beautiful truths.

Today we're talking about the journey in between.

The part that happens after you say yes to Jesus and before you see Him face to face.

It's called sanctification.

And if that word feels heavy or churchy, don't worry. We're going to break it down and see why it's actually one of the most hopeful truths in the entire Christian faith.

What Sanctification Actually Means

Sanctification is just a fancy word for "being set apart."

It's the ongoing process of becoming more like Jesus.

Not because you have to earn God's love.

You already have that.

But because God's transforming you from the inside out.

Think of it like this: when you get saved, God declares you clean. That's justification. It's instant. Done. Finished.

But sanctification? That's the process of actually becoming clean. Of growing in holiness. Of letting God reshape your thoughts, habits, desires, and character.

It's not about perfection.

It's about direction.

Why This Matters More Than You Think

Here's what makes sanctification such good news:

You're not stuck.

Whatever you're struggling with today, anger, fear, jealousy, addiction, bitterness, it doesn't have the final word.

God's not done with you yet.

Growth is expected.

You don't have to pretend you've got it all together. The Christian life is not about arriving. It's about walking. Step by step. Day by day.

God does the heavy lifting.

Sanctification isn't a self-improvement project. It's a God project. Yes, you cooperate. Yes, you show up. But the power? That's all Him.

The Bible says it clearly:

"For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose." (Philippians 2:13)

You don't change yourself. God changes you. And He uses everyday moments to do it.

How Sanctification Actually Works

So what does growing in holiness look like practically?

It's simpler than you think.

You spend time with God.

Prayer. Reading the Bible. Worship. These aren't religious chores. They're how you stay connected to the source of transformation.

The more time you spend with Jesus, the more you start to think like Him. Talk like Him. Love like Him.

You let the Holy Spirit lead.

When the Spirit nudges you to apologize, you do it.

When He convicts you about a habit that's pulling you away from God, you listen.

When He whispers encouragement, you receive it.

Sanctification is a partnership. God empowers. You obey.

You practice the basics.

Confess your sins. Forgive others. Serve people. Tell the truth. Show up.

None of this is flashy. But it's how real transformation happens.

Small obedience. Repeated daily.

You stay in community.

You can't grow alone. You need other believers. People who will pray for you, challenge you, and remind you of the truth when you forget.

If you're not plugged into a community yet, start simple. Join a Bible study group. Show up for Sunday worship. Even online connection counts.

God uses people to shape people.

What Sanctification Is Not

Let's clear up a few things.

It's not about looking perfect.

You're going to mess up. A lot. That's part of the process. Sanctification includes stumbling, confessing, getting back up, and trying again.

It's not about comparing yourself to others.

Your growth is between you and God. Don't measure your day-one against someone else's year-ten.

It's not legalism.

Sanctification isn't about following a bunch of rules to earn God's approval. It's about letting God free you from the things that are keeping you stuck.

It's not slavery. It's freedom.

It's not instant.

This is a lifelong journey. You won't wake up tomorrow fully formed. But you will wake up with the opportunity to take one more step forward.

The Long Obedience

There's a phrase some old saints used: "the long obedience in the same direction."

That's sanctification.

Showing up.

Choosing faithfulness.

Letting God chip away at the hard places in your heart.

One decision at a time.

One day at a time.

One step at a time.

Some days you'll feel like you're flying. Other days you'll feel like you're crawling. Both are okay.

Progress isn't always visible. But it's happening.

God's at work in you even when you can't see it.

What This Looks Like in Real Life

Let's get practical for a second.

Sanctification might look like:

  • Choosing forgiveness when you'd rather hold a grudge.

  • Praying for someone who hurt you.

  • Turning off a show or song that pulls your heart away from God.

  • Apologizing when you're wrong.

  • Serving someone even when you're tired.

  • Being honest when lying would be easier.

  • Saying no to something good so you can say yes to something better.

None of this is heroic. It's just holy.

And it's how God grows you.

Keep Walking

Here's the most important thing to remember:

You're not walking alone.

God's Spirit is with you every single step.

When you stumble, He lifts you up.

When you're weary, He carries you.

When you're confused, He guides you.

Sanctification isn't something you do for God. It's something God does in you.

Your job? Stay close. Stay open. Stay willing.

Let Him work.

And trust that the God who started this good work in you will be faithful to complete it.
