The Boundless Daily - Day 8: Trusting the Unseen

You wake up in the dark.

The room is pitch black, but you know exactly where the light switch is. You walk across the floor with confidence, reach out, and flip it on.

You just demonstrated faith.

You trusted that the floor would hold you. That the walls hadn't moved. That the light switch would still be where you left it yesterday.

None of those things were visible in the dark. But you trusted them anyway.

That's what faith looks like in everyday life: and it's the same kind of trust God invites us into every single day.

What Faith Really Means

The Bible gives us one of the clearest definitions of faith in Hebrews 11:1:

"Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see."

Faith isn't pretending something is true when you know it's not.

Faith is trusting in Someone who has proven Himself faithful: even when you can't see the full picture yet.

It's not blind trust. It's trust based on who God has shown Himself to be.

Walking by Faith, Not by Sight

Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 5:7:

"For we walk by faith, not by sight."

This doesn't mean we ignore reality or throw logic out the window.

It means we base our decisions, our peace, and our hope on God's character and promises: not just on what we can see in front of us right now.

Walking by sight means relying only on what's visible, measurable, and predictable.

Walking by faith means trusting that God is working even when you can't see the outcome yet.

When You Can't See What God Is Doing

Let's be honest: there are seasons when it feels like God is silent.

You pray, but nothing seems to change.

You trust, but the situation gets worse before it gets better.

You hope, but the answers don't come as fast as you'd like.

That's when faith gets tested.

And that's also when faith grows.

Abraham didn't see the fulfillment of God's promise for decades. But he kept trusting. Moses led people through the wilderness for forty years. But he kept following. Joseph spent years in prison for a crime he didn't commit. But he kept believing God had a plan.

None of them had all the answers. But they all had faith in the One who did.

Three Things You Can Trust Even When You Can't See

1. God's Presence

You may not feel Him. You may not hear Him. But He's there.

Hebrews 13:5 reminds us:

"Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."

God doesn't abandon you in the dark. He walks with you through it.

2. God's Promises

God's Word is full of promises that don't depend on your circumstances.

He promises peace. Provision. Protection. Purpose.

Those promises don't change based on what you can see today. They're anchored in who He is.

3. God's Plan

Romans 8:28 tells us:

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."

Even when life doesn't make sense, God is working. Even when the pieces don't fit, He's building something.

You may not see it now. But one day, you'll look back and realize He was there all along.

Practical Ways to Trust the Unseen Today

So how do you actually live this out? How do you trust what you can't see when everything around you feels uncertain?

Here are a few practical steps:

Start with what you do know.

You may not know how everything will work out. But you do know God loves you. You do know He's faithful. Start there.

Bring your questions to God.

Faith doesn't mean pretending you don't have doubts. It means bringing those doubts to the One who can handle them. Pray honestly. Ask hard questions. God's big enough for it.

Look back at what He's already done.

Remembering God's faithfulness in the past strengthens your faith for the future. Write down the times He's come through before. Let those stories remind you He's still the same God today.

Take the next right step.

You don't need to see the whole staircase. You just need to take the next step in front of you. Trust God with today, and let Him worry about tomorrow.

Surround yourself with faith-filled people.

Faith grows in community. Connect with others who are walking the same journey. Encourage each other. Pray together. Remind each other of God's goodness.

Faith Is a Choice You Make Every Day

Trusting the unseen isn't a one-time decision.

It's a daily choice.

Some days, it feels easy. Other days, it feels impossible.

But every time you choose to trust God: even in the smallest way: you're building a life of faith.

And over time, that faith becomes the foundation everything else rests on.

So today, even if you can't see what's next, trust the One who does.

Even if the road ahead looks uncertain, trust the One who's already walked it.

Even if you don't have all the answers, trust the One who holds them all.

That's what it means to trust the unseen.

And that's the kind of faith that changes everything.
