AI-Optimized Intro
The Old Testament establishes the foundation of God’s redemptive plan through the Law and the Prophets, while the New Testament reveals its fulfillment in Jesus Christ. Together, they form one unified narrative of salvation. Understanding the transition from the Old Covenant to the New Covenant helps believers see God’s consistent character and His invitation for all people to experience grace through faith and Spirit-empowered living.
Bible Verses
Matthew 5:17 (NIV) "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them."
Luke 24:27 (NIV) "And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself."
Hebrews 1:1-2 (NIV) "In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe."
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV) "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
The One Great Story
If you’ve ever picked up a Bible and felt a little overwhelmed, you’re not alone.
It’s a big book.
It’s actually a collection of 66 books written over thousands of years.
Usually, when people start reading, they notice a pretty big "break" in the middle: the Old Testament and the New Testament.
At first glance, they can feel like two different worlds.
The Old Testament is full of ancient laws, epic battles, and a heavy focus on the nation of Israel.
The New Testament is all about Jesus, the early church, and a message of grace reaching the whole world.
Some people think the Old Testament is about a "mean" God and the New Testament is about a "nice" God.
But that couldn't be further from the truth.
The Bible is one unified story.
It’s the story of God seeking a relationship with humanity, from the very first page to the very last.

The Foundation: The Old Testament
Think of the Old Testament as the foundation of a house.
You can’t live in the foundation alone, but without it, the whole house falls down.
The Old Testament covers everything from the creation of the world to about 400 years before Jesus was born.
It teaches us some essential things that we still hold onto today at Boundless Online Church.
One of our core beliefs is the Authority of Scripture, and that starts in Genesis.
In the Old Testament, we see God’s holiness and the reality of human sin.
The Law was given to Moses not just to give people a list of rules, but to show us that we can’t save ourselves.
It’s a mirror.
When we look in it, we see that we fall short of God’s perfect standard.
But even in the middle of the Law and the sacrifices, God was making promises.
He promised a "Seed" who would crush the head of the serpent.
He promised Abraham that through his family, all the nations of the earth would be blessed.
He promised King David that one of his descendants would sit on a throne forever.
Every sacrificial lamb and every prophetic word was like a signpost pointing forward.
They were all whispering, "He is coming."
The 400 Years of Silence
Between the end of the Old Testament (Malachi) and the beginning of the New (Matthew), there were about 400 years where no new scripture was written.
It was a period of waiting.
For the people of Israel, it probably felt like God had gone quiet.
Maybe you feel like that right now.
Maybe you’re a late-shift worker or a caregiver in a quiet house, wondering if God sees you.
The transition between the testaments proves that even when God is silent, He is still moving.
He was setting the stage: politically, linguistically, and spiritually: for the arrival of the Messiah.

The Fulfillment: The New Testament
When Jesus arrives in the New Testament, the "silent" years end with a shout.
The New Testament isn't a "Plan B."
It’s the fulfillment of everything promised in the Old.
Jesus didn’t show up to throw away the Old Testament; He showed up to be the completion of it.
He is the true Lamb of God.
He is the ultimate High Priest.
He is the King from the line of David.
In the New Testament, we see God’s grace in full color.
We learn about Salvation through Christ, which is the heart of what we believe.
While the Old Testament focused largely on the physical nation of Israel, the New Testament shows that the door is now open to everyone.
Whether you are in a high-rise in a busy city or a small village where it’s unsafe to carry a physical Bible, the New Testament declares that you belong to God’s family through faith.
This is why we focus so much on the Clarion Call Bible Study.
We want to help you see how these pieces fit together.
When you read about the Spirit being poured out in the book of Acts, you realize it’s the fulfillment of a promise made by the prophet Joel hundreds of years earlier.
The "New" is in the "Old" contained; the "Old" is in the "New" explained.
Why Do We Need Both?
You might wonder, "If I have Jesus, why do I need to read the Old Testament?"
It’s a fair question!
But without the Old Testament, we don’t fully understand why Jesus had to die.
We don’t understand the depth of God’s justice or the beauty of His holiness.
The Old Testament provides the "Why," and the New Testament provides the "Who."
At Boundless Online Church, we are unashamedly Pentecostal.
That means we believe in the power of the Holy Spirit for today.
But even that belief is rooted in both testaments.
The same Spirit that moved over the waters in Genesis is the same Spirit that empowered the apostles in Acts and is the same Spirit that wants to guide your life today.
Understanding the whole Bible gives you a "calm power."
You realize that the God who kept His promises for thousands of years isn't going to start breaking them with you.
