Tier 2 Young Families
Why: This post connects young families in Cordova to essential support systems like MUMS and Mother’s Day Out, fostering a sense of belonging and spiritual growth within the local community.
You can find community for your young family in Cordova through First Assembly Memphis—especially through MUMs (Mothers Uplifting Mothers) and Mother’s Day Out (MDO). Sunday Morning Classes start at 9:30 AM and Worship is at 10:30 AM.
Why: This matters because we want to strengthen families in the 901 with real, biblical community—not just friendly hellos in a hallway.
Definition Block — Biblical Community: A Christ-centered way of living where believers encourage, serve, and grow together under God’s Word (Acts 2:42–47; Hebrews 10:24–25), not as perfect people, but as a family being formed by Jesus.
Ministry | Purpose | Contact/Info |
MUMs | Encouragement, mentorship, and spiritual support for moms in the preschool and school-age years | |
Mother’s Day Out (MDO) | Christ-centered childcare and early learning support for young children (MDO hours are 9:30 AM – 2:30 PM) |
The "Village" is Closer Than You Think
Today (March 9): Pastoral Staff Meeting at 9:00 AM.
If you’ve spent any time driving down Germantown Parkway or navigating the school pickup lines in Cordova, you know that the 901 is a bustling, beautiful place to raise a family. But let’s be real for a second, parenting is hard. It’s rewarding, life-changing, and filled with "did they really just do that?" moments, but it can also feel incredibly isolating.
You might be sitting in your living room surrounded by blocks and half-eaten snacks, wondering, "Where are the other people who get this?" Maybe you’re new to the area, or maybe you’ve lived in Memphis your whole life but your social circle has shifted since you traded late-night outings for early-morning diaper changes.
At First Assembly Memphis, we believe you weren't meant to do this alone. Our heart is for hospitality, and that extends to every tired dad, every caffeinated-to-the-max mom, and every toddler currently trying to eat a crayon. If you’re looking for a community that feels like home, you’ve found it.
MUMs: Because Motherhood is Better Together
One of the crown jewels of our community life for young families is MUMs (Mothers Uplifting Mothers). If the name sounds like a warm hug, that’s because it basically is.
MUMs is specifically designed to meet the needs of mothers who are navigating the preschool and school-age years. We know that as a mom, your "to-do" list is approximately three miles long. Between appointments, laundry, and trying to remember if today is "spirit day" at school, your own spiritual and emotional health can sometimes take a backseat.

What Exactly is MUMs?
MUMs is more than just a playdate (though we love those, too). It’s a space where you can let your guard down. We follow the principle that we are better together. Our gatherings focus on:
Mentorship: Connecting with women who have "been there, done that" and can offer a perspective of grace and wisdom.
Support: Having a place to vent, laugh, and pray about the specific challenges of raising kids in today's world.
Biblical Foundation: Everything we do is anchored in the authority of Scripture. We believe that motherhood is a high calling from God, and we want to help you lead your family with Christ-like love.
Whether you’re a working mom, a stay-at-home mom, or somewhere in between, there is a seat for you at the table. You don’t have to have your life together to show up. In fact, most of us don't. We just show up, share our lives, and point each other back to Jesus. You can learn more about how to get involved at www.famemphis.net/mums.
Mother’s Day Out: A Gift for You and Your Child
Let’s talk about that moment when you realize you just need four hours to run an errand, drink a hot cup of coffee, or, dare we dream, take a nap. This is where our Mother’s Day Out (MDO) program comes in.
Located right here in Cordova, our Mother’s Day Out is a cornerstone of our hospitality to young families. We aren't just a childcare facility; we are a ministry. We understand that leaving your child with someone else is a big deal. You want to know they are safe, loved, and in an environment that reflects your values.
Why Choose MDO at First Assembly Memphis?
Our program is designed to be a "win-win." Your child gets a day of social interaction and learning, and you get a day to breathe.
A Safe, Fun Environment: We prioritize safety and cleanliness. Our staff is dedicated to creating a space where kids feel secure and excited to learn.
Early Childhood Growth: We don't just "watch" the kids. We engage them. From crafts to storytime, we focus on helping little ones develop social skills and a foundational understanding of God’s love for them.
Community Connection: MDO is often the "front door" for many families to find their place in our larger church body. It’s a great way to meet other parents in the same life stage.
MDO hours are 9:30 AM – 2:30 PM. We follow general schedules that align with the local school year calendars to make things easier for families with older siblings in school. For details on our registration process and specific requirements, you can check out our MDO Policy page or visit www.famemphis.net/mother-s-day-out.

More Than Just a Program: A Spiritual Home
While MUMs and MDO are fantastic, they are parts of a much larger whole. First Assembly Memphis is a place where we take our Mission and Vision seriously. We are committed to the 16 Fundamental Truths of the Assemblies of God, which means we believe in the power of the Holy Spirit to transform lives and the absolute authority of the Bible.
When you bring your family here, you aren't just signing up for a service; you’re joining a family. Sunday Morning Classes begin at 9:30 AM and Worship is at 10:30 AM. From our Sunday services to our seasonal events like Trunk or Treat or VBS, everything is designed to build you up and point your family toward Christ.
Finding Your Rhythm
We know that life moves fast. One day you’re researching the best strollers, and the next you’re looking into baseball or fall sports for your elementary-aged child. As your family grows, our community grows with you. We have ministries for every stage of life, ensuring that as your kids grow up, they have a solid foundation and a community that knows their names.
Tips for New Families in Cordova
If you’re just starting your search for community, here are a few "pastoral manager" tips for finding your footing:
Take the First Step: It can be intimidating to walk into a new building or a new group. We promise we’re friendly! Just showing up is the hardest part.
Sign Up for Updates: The best way to know what’s happening is to get on our list. You can subscribe to our weekly emails to stay in the loop about upcoming events and family resources.
Ask Questions: Not sure which group is right for you? I’m New is a great place to start, or you can always reach out to our staff.
You Are Priceless
In the middle of the chaos of parenting, the sleepless nights, the constant questions, the mountain of laundry, it’s easy to feel like you’re just a "service provider" for your kids. We want to remind you that you are a priceless child of God.

Your growth, your spiritual health, and your joy matter to Him and they matter to us. First Assembly Memphis isn't just a place for your kids to learn about Jesus; it’s a place for you to grow in Him, too.
