A Message from FA Memphis
The Trinity is the foundational Christian belief that God exists as one essence in three distinct persons: the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit. Co-equal and co-eternal, they work in perfect unity. This doctrine reveals God’s relational nature as eternal love and explains how He creates, redeems, and sustains us. Understanding the Trinity helps believers experience a deeper, personal relationship with the Triune God.
Bible Verses to Carry With You
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." , Matthew 28:19
"May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all." , 2 Corinthians 13:14
"As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, 'This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.'" , Matthew 3:16-17
"Then God said, 'Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness...'" , Genesis 1:26
Why the Trinity Matters for Your Daily Walk
At Boundless Online Church, we often talk about how God meets us exactly where we are, whether you are on a break during a late-night shift, caregiving for a loved one at home, or searching for answers in a quiet moment of your day. One of the most common questions people ask Dr. Layne McDonald is: "How can God be three and one at the same time?"
It is a mystery, for sure. But it is a mystery that has beautiful implications for how we live our lives. The doctrine of the Trinity isn't just a "theology thing" for scholars to argue about in dusty libraries. It is the heartbeat of the Christian faith. It tells us that before the world began, God was already in a relationship.
God is love because the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit have loved one another for all eternity. This means you aren't just a random creation; you are invited into a family.

One God, Three Persons
To understand the Trinity, we start with the fact that there is only one God. We aren't polytheists who believe in many different gods with competing agendas. Our God is unified. However, within that unity, there are three distinct persons:
1. God the Father He is our Creator and the source of all life. He is the one who "so loved the world" that He initiated the plan to rescue us. When you feel alone or like you don't have a place in this world, remember that the Father has a heart for you. He is the one who keeps watch while the world sleeps. If you find yourself awake and worried, you might find comfort in our post about why God never sleeps on the night shift.
2. God the Son (Jesus Christ) Jesus is God with skin on. He is the Word made flesh who came to live among us, die for our sins, and rise again. He is our substitute and our savior. Because Jesus is fully God, we know exactly what God’s character is like by looking at Him. He is kind, He is just, and He is full of grace.
3. God the Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit is not a "vague force" or a "feeling." He is a person. He is our Comforter, Advocate, and Guide. In the Assemblies of God tradition, we emphasize the power of the Holy Spirit to transform our lives and empower us for service. If you’ve ever wondered about the role of the Spirit in the church today, you might want to read more about what Pentecostal means or explore the initial evidence of the baptism in the Holy Spirit.
The Trinity in Action: Your Salvation
The Trinity isn't just who God is; it's what God does. Think about the process of your own faith journey.
The Father planned your redemption before the foundations of the world. The Son stepped into time and space to accomplish that redemption on the cross. The Holy Spirit is the one who opens your eyes to see the truth, convicts your heart, and lives within you to help you grow.
All three are working together for your good. When you pray, you are speaking to the Father, through the Son, by the power of the Holy Spirit. You are never praying alone.

Common Questions About the Triune God
We know that this can be a lot to take in. It’s okay to have questions. In fact, we encourage them! We often see that 7 life questions everyone is afraid to ask often lead back to the nature of God Himself.
One question we get is: "Is the word 'Trinity' in the Bible?" The answer is no, the specific word isn't there. But the reality of it is on almost every page. From the "Us" in Genesis to the baptism of Jesus where the Spirit descends and the Father speaks, the Bible consistently shows us a God who is three-in-one.
Another question is: "Does it really matter if I understand this?" It matters because it changes how you see God. If God were just one person in solitude, He would have needed to create us in order to have someone to love. But because God is a Trinity, He was already perfectly happy and loving within Himself. He didn't create us because He was lonely; He created us out of an overflow of His love so that we could share in the joy He already had.
Practical Encouragement for Your Week
As you go about your week: whether you're navigating a difficult workplace, managing a busy household, or dealing with health challenges: take heart in the Triune God.
You have a Father who provides and protects.
You have a Savior who understands your suffering and has overcome the world.
You have a Spirit who gives you strength when you are weak and peace that passes understanding.
You are invited into this divine community. You aren't just an observer of God; through faith in Christ, you are adopted into His family. A Prayer for Understanding and Peace
Lord God, We thank You for the mystery and the majesty of who You are. Father, thank You for Your pursuing love and Your perfect plan for our lives. Jesus, thank You for Your sacrifice and for being the bridge that brings us back to God. Holy Spirit, thank You for being our constant companion and for the power You give us to live holy lives.
Help us to rest in the truth that You are for us, You are with us, and You are within us. When our minds can't fully grasp the depth of the Trinity, let our hearts find rest in Your perfect unity. May Your grace, love, and fellowship be with us today and always. Amen.
